A wonderfully inviting book about Einstein for youngest readers
When my wife and I saw this book available for review from VINE, we were happy to do so. We're both lifelong readers and now we're grandparents who enjoy picture books with our very youngest grandchild. This is part of the legacy of Frances Lincoln Children's Books, now owned by Quarto. My wife and I have collected many children's books since the 1970s, so we were immediately drawn to the name of Lincoln's world-famous imprint for children. She died way too young 20 years ago but her vision continues and you can read about the writer-artist team that produced these My First Artists books in the Amazon book page. We know and love and respect the work by this creative team stretching all the way back to the vision of Frances herself. In this book, Maria Isabel Sรกnchez Vegara and Jean Claude have created a vivid life of Einstein for very young readers, meaning that these are ideal books to start reading to small children. Some books in this series are actual board books, which the littlest readers can safely handle. This book is not a board book. It has more pages, more words and we really appreciate that the publisher decided to put thick paper stock into the pages, which means that our 2 year old granddaughter can easily and safely turn these pages with us, or while she flips the pages herself. Then, I do want to point out that the publisher rates this book for ages 4 to 7 and that makes sense given the language and concepts in this mini-biography of Einstein. However, in our family, we're reading this book with our 2-and-a-half-year-old granddaughter already. The colorful illustrations are very engaging and we read and tell and talk about the story as we go. Now, we should explain: We also have an earlier Einstein board book and the idea of linking early childhood learning to Einstein has been popular for a very long time. We all hope to be raising little geniuses. So, it's not unusual to want to raise this name and story with very small children. However, this book does include the rise of the Nazis in Germany, the start of World War II, the connection between Einstein's thinking and the atomic bomb. So, those are some pretty deep subjects for very young children. At this point, as readers to our 2-year-old, we can shape the entire book to skip over more troubling subjects at the moment. For example, we're not even trying to explain the concept of the atomic bomb to our granddaughter. That's for a later age. She can't read yet, so we can shape the overall story at this age however we want. What we especially like in this book are the strongly articulated themes of creative imagination and the commitment to helping other people, which Einstein certainly embodied. We think think is a brilliantly conceived series of books and this is an especially good volume within that series. Very happy to give this 5 stars.

My favorite book in the series so far...
The Little People Big Dreams series is great if you want a biographical picture book to introduce an important person to a younger child or as a quick primer story for older kids before they do more research. If you are looking for a biography this will probably disappoint. I usually love the Little People Big Dreams series in that they are biographical picture books that make learning about a new person accessible to younger children. My 5 year old has thoroughly enjoyed this series as we have been slowly going through them. Just like all the other books in this series, this book starts with Albert Einstein when he was a child and the struggles he had in learning to speak, organization, and his troubles in school. It then talks about the things that inspired him as a young boy, how he as a teenager published his first scientific paper, and how he goes on to win the Nobel Prize. This book then touches on how he was Jewish and also does briefly mention that Nazi's had taken over Germany. It then goes on to talk about his regrets regarding the nuclear bomb and how he tried to use his fame to fight discrimination against black people. Considering that this book brings some pretty heavy topics such as WWII, Nazi's, Nuclear Bomb, I thought that it was really well done and in a way suitable for the younger audience. In describing the Nazi take over of Germany, Vegara just simply states that "They planned to get rid of anyone who was not like them--especially Jewish people." It states the truth without having to go into the ugly details that children may not be ready for. Overall I really really loved this book and this just might be one of my favorites in the whole series. What really resonated for me and my children was the struggles he faced and yet was able to accomplish so much. As a parent of a child who has similar issues with executive function and can be hyper focused on certain topics, it was great for my child to read about someone who is just like him and how they became so accomplished in spite of all the struggles they had as a child. I thought Vegara did a wonderful job in describing the struggles Einstein faced as a child that can resonate with children who are facing similar struggles. Great biography series
I've found that a lot of students in my 6th grade classroom don't have a lot of experience reading and working with biographies. Because of this, I have been including books in my classroom library that are for a younger age group, but include the basics of someone's life. This really fits the bill. It's written clearly with just the facts. It gives some story to keep your interest as you read through the main aspects of the person's life. All of the Little People, Big Dreams books are laid out in chronological order. They are filled with more illustrations than writing. They also try to include famous quotes that the person has said within the writing. Sometimes these require a bit more research to completely understand, but that has worked in my benefit because my students then have to go find out more. Overall, this is a page turner that my middle school students can get through in about 15 minutes of silent reading. Because of that, it is popular to have out on the desks when we have independent reading or extra time. It's just long enough to fill that period of time and feel like you have learned something new about the person.

Very nice book. Inspirational positive and enjoyable read.
Build Quality: The book is very well made and illustrated. This is not a board book, but it does have thick paper stock for younger children. Audience: This book can be easily read by children ages 4 to 7. The concise but very clear narrative focuses a lot on how he grew up and provides the reader with some key concepts from his childhood, like how he coped with being different. Meaningful / Inspirational: This book not only encourages children to dream big but also shares inspirational messages and historical facts. This makes this book highly relatable to many children. We gifted this book to our nephews for Christmas. Our 10-year-old nephew has autism and his younger 5 year-old-brother loves hearing this story of a young boy that could not talk (just like his brother) but grew to become an important historical figure. This is a beautiful book and a wonderful series overall. Every one of these books consists of ordinary people who change the world and are so intuitive and educational. They are wonderfully written and illustrated. Our nephews love this book and appreciate the very special messages in it.
