As an Electrical contractor I was making repairs on an irrigation controller that had been hit with a car, weeks prior. My work Van is fitted with strobe lights and parked on the shoulder of the freeway. The day was overcast but not dark enough for most cars to turn on their lights. I went to my Van to grab a pipe bender, that's when a car ran into my rear bumper at 10 MPH. The lady told the tow truck driver that she had a flat on the rear, pulled off the freeway but didn't see my Van parked in the shoulder.On that day I made the decision to remove all the cheap strobe lights from my vehicle and replace them with professional grade that can be seen in daytime. All the lights that I installed were made by "Federal Signal", a very expensive company to do business with. The last light that I needed was a 7" dome strobe light. I didn't want those forklift lights made by China; I needed something bright in daytime. That is when I saw the Abrams 7" Star Eye LED light. The installation went very smooth. I purchased the hard wire version with four control wires. When the power is on it pulls about 1.8 Amps depending on your strobe option. Some light patters consume more amperage. I was very disappointed, however that it can just barely be seen in the daytime. Yes, it is brighter than the forklift lights, but it is sorely lacking when compared to the original "Federal" xenon strobe lamp which is used on all airport runway vehicles. Although not as expensive as a Federal Signal light, the Abrams light is not cheap by any other comparison. I expected a lot more from them. Abrams is heavy on technology with a very impressive looking circuit board and LED light tower that also doubles as a huge heatsink, but for some reason their actual LEDs are of average quality and mediocre intensity. For G-D sakes my hand held flashlight puts out more intensity that their whole array of LEDs. If cars are still having a hard time seeing me during the day, I may be forced to cut my loses and remove the Abrams light and replace it with a Agrieyes light, which can easily be seen in daytime but at the moment they only make a 4" dome.

Unfortunately I checked it too late. One was dead. Check as soon as you get them.

The beacon did not power up straight out of the box. It does me no good to get a broken item.
