3D Illusion Confusion
The media could not be loaded. It will probably be as well to make one thing quite clear from the outset; this is NOT in any manner a 3D light. It doesn't use holographic light, it doesn't have any kind of 3D imaging, it is strictly the illusion of 3D. To be fair, this is stated on the advertising, but it might save some disappointment if someone overlooks that important snippet of information. The illusion, such as it is, is created by means of a light shining up through the base of the unit - which can be powered either via the supplied USB lead or by batteries which offer more somewhat more freedom of placement - and onto a clear plastic sheet etched with an image of a pair of headphones. This plastic element just slots into the base. The image is a wireframe rather than a solid image, and this is crucial to the illusion; every one of the curving lines in this image presents the brain with information regarding perspective, and it is deliberately designed to be at a good angle for 3D perception. When the light interacts with these lines of perspective, it is supposed to significantly enhance the 3D perspective and fool the brain into seeing it as three dimensional. It's a pretty basic trick, and one should expect anything too spectacular from it - I'd suggest its the modern equivalent of those old 3D cards that gave a slightly different perspective when moved back and forth. Personally I was never able to see those 3D Magic Eye images that were so popular back in the day, so thought perhaps the same issue is the reason I don't see much of an effect from this. I can see how it works and I see the effect vaguely, but it turns out that I'm not the only one who finds the effect somewhat underwhelming. The actual lighting, apart from the actual 3D side of things, is rather nice and has a range of colours that can be set of cycled through, utilising a single control button atop the base.. It would probably make an effective night light. And while I don't find the 3D impressive (nor am I particularly entranced by the subject - headphones?) I think perhaps it might look sufficiently novel to a child that they would form a higher opinion of it. I think I've made it clear that I'm unimpressed with the illusion and I suspect that I won't be alone in this appraisal - however, I do think younger kids - and after all, this is who it is marketed for - might be less critical; it's colourful and it will seem novel to them. However, given how basic it is think at £16.99 it's somewhat overpriced.

Awesome!
They look incredible.. there you go, I keep referring to them as 'they', 'they're' or 'them' because the illusion is so perfect, I should be saying: 'it', but just look.. I mean you feel like you could put one finger under the head strap and pick them up, whereas it's just a flat piece of acrylic, but unless you actually reach out and touch it you just can't believe it. One thing I really liked (and which adds to the illusion) is where the acrylic is outside the body of the headphones and meets the base, it actually looks like two separate wires..In the box you've got the acrylic plate itself, covered for transit in removable film, the base, USB cable and instructions. You can choose to power it via the USB cable or if you prefer, 3 AA batteries (not supplied). Touching the power button on the base turns it on (and it'll remember your last colour setting) then the next 6 presses will cycle through the other colours, an 8th press will flash all the colours, a 9th will slow fade through them and a 10th will make all the colours 'glow'. To turn it off, simply hold the power sensor for a couple of seconds.Although I'm a big fan of blue normally, I chose the 'brown' pic as the main image because they look even more lifelike, and the base (which is actually black) looks like wood. I think the manufacturer is selling themselves short to a certain extent, describing them (...it) as for 'kids, children' I mean if you were doing a DJ set you could have these right by your decks, no worries. They're absolutely GORGEOUS - I mean 'it's' absolutely gorgeous.Highly recommended.

This is quite small!
This has been bought has a Christmas present for my great nephew but was chosen by his mum. He hasn’t had it yet but when I received it it was much smaller than I expected so if you are interested in this item check out the dimensions first. I can’t give any comment on what it is like when it is in use. All I can say is it is preferable to the real snake he originally wanted!

Don't be misled by the picture
The picture on the listing made this look much cooler than it is in practice. It's effectively a thin piece of perspex with some headphones etched into it, which slots into a base with a small light. The resulting effect is pretty much what you'd expect, and it certainly doesn't look 3D in real life. The one upside is that it's not expensive, and I guess as a stocking filler for a pre-teen, it might have some value.

Great fun headphone light
This comes nicely boxed which would be ideal if giving as a gift for a music fan.A fairly small light but a great looking headphone, the light is slightly bigger than the palm of my hand.Comes with a base which the light sits on, has a USB cable (no charger, you’ll need to use a USB charger)This is nice, small, but fun, its not a lamp to light the room, it’s not that bright, I do think it looks great next to Hi-Fi and deckIt will give out a bit of night light if you wanted the little one needing a bit of soft light.
