Q: Does this FD have a light that flashes when uploading / downloading files to it. If so, where is the location of the light...on the end, top, bottom

I purchased my 16 GB flash drive last May 2020 and it definitely has a light.

Q: Is there a way you can attach a keychain to it?

No you can not attach a key chain to this flash drive. Unless it is a small cable type of key chain. The provided stud for attachment is placed in the corner and not enough room behind it to make the tight turn out of the cavity. I used a rubber band for mine to hang it from.

Q: Can i use this to back up everything on my laptop so i can reinstall windows 7 & not lose all my stuff? how do i find out how big a stick i need?

Just remember two things. 1) you can't just copy files to back up your computer 2) This 256GB. I did a test with my phone 64GB transfer takes over 4 hours. To copy the whole 256GB will take 16 hours. It's a very slow device. If your laptop has USB 3.0, you'd be better off with the SanDisk 256GB Extreme PRO. That one will take only 100 minutes to fill it vs. 16 hours with this one AND costs a little less than double the cost of this one.

Q: I want to download slides and don't know how to judge capacity or what size to buy.

Putting all your slides together in a folder, whether it be folders in that folder, you can then right click on that folder, go to properties, and the folder size would be in that window. If no more slides are to be added, you can purchase the size needed for that folder, however I only utilize 80% of my drives.
