LOVE
Bought for sons bday. He loves it. All of them (4) sit and look at book every day. This truly gets used daily. It is already falling apart from use. It is loved. They even like playing the Pokemon video games and as they come across new Pokemon they look it up in the Pokemon book. I had no idea a book would ever be used so much, but they truly love it.It has every Pokemon in it, listed in ABC order. It shows the Pokemons photo, their moves, height, weight, how to pronounce their name, and it shows what they evolve into or it will say if they do not evolve.Pretty awesome book. Very thorough and a Pokemon fan must have.

Great book for kids of all ages.
I cannot say enough good things about this Pokémon essential handbook. If you have a young child interested in pokemon and want to encourage reading this is a great book to do that. My son is 6 and constantly reads the book from cover to cover. We keep it in the car and take it to restaurants to occupy his mind. it has vivid pictures and shows clearly how each pokemon evolves from one form to the next. It also comes with the pronunciations of the words so they can sound them out on their own. Each page has detailed information on the pokemon characters. My son finds this so interesting. I love seeing him read! I highly recommend this book!

Must HAVE for a Pokemon fan!
My son is really into learning all about Pokemon. I decided to get this book for his birthday gift. I didn't expect much for the low price I paid, but when it arrived, I couldn't believe how nice it was. A nice thick sturdy book, with page after shiny page of Pokemon stats and character information. He couldn't put it down. He carried it around for 6 months, spouting fact after fact, until I was ready to send the book back! After all that wear and tear, the book still looks almost new. I would definitely recommend this book to any Pokemon fans who want to know the characters, their evolutions, their stats and their pronunciations.

Excellent for Young Pokemon Fans
My young son loves this book. It is detailed enough to hold a young reader’s interest without being so complicated they lose interest. It is also thick enough that it will be used by young Pokemon fans on a regular basis. The sheer number of Pokemon covered in the book is a major asset and definitely helps hold the interest of grade school age kids.It also has an added benefit of motivating kids to read. The fact the book is broken up by Pokemon characters makes it ideal for young readers to read a little at a time and stay within their attention span. It is definitely a good buy for young readers who are also young Pokemon fans.

Amazing for reference
Having been a Pokémon fan since childhood I always wanted a complete book that had every one listed. This book includes a picture, height, weight, type, evolution(s) a short description and more. A bit of a criticism that didn't bother me but may pique hard-core fans a bit is that the Pokémon are listed alphabetically not by number. I found this easier than the number order though. It includes all Pokémon up to Black and White. X and Y are not included but if the next book that comes out that includes them is just like this one I would absolutely purchase it. Just one last thing, the height and weight with some of the pokemon seem a little off when you consider them in relation to others and if you've seen them on the show or in movies and compare these with the stats it seems a bit wonky. Almost like they did each pokemon individually and did not consider them in relation to any of the others.

Great pictures, alphabetical and colorful,
This has the most poke info i could find in a single book on every pokemon out there. I just wish they were listed in pokedex order!!The alphabetization makes it easy to find the one you need to get info on, but what is the point of a number system if you're not gonna use it. Call me oldschool, but I want to see each of these next to their corresponding eras, and evolutions, CHAR, Char and Char, not mixed around all crazy like! Otherwise the pictures and quality of print is great. Good quick reference to these characters. More background on each would be nicer instead of a potential list of moves. Way less interesting than a nice intro paragraph would have been. BUT THIS IS BUILT FOR CHILDREN SO THERES THAT TO CONSIDER.Well put together and easy to use. I also like that the evolutions are shown on each pokemon page regarding paths. For ExampleEvee shows all the different elemental evolutions on its page, but the individual evolutions only show evee and itself. Not having been keeping up with this stuff since 2001, it's nice to get back in and discover a whole bookful of creatures I have never heard of before.

"essential" for any pokemon-loving kid
My 5 1/2 y.o. son spends hours looking through this book and reading all about his favorite pokemon. He also uses the book as a guide to try to draw them himself. However, I have to say that even though he loves this book, he likes the Pokemon Visual Companion even more because it has more background and story. The essential handbook is just a listing of all the pokemon (with about a page dedicated to each) with a picture and a summary of the pokemon's "abilities" and some facts about each one. But he likes using it as a reference and looking up all of the pokemon in it.

Perfect For Those Who Still Want To "Gotta Catch'em All!"
I'd grow up playing and watching Pokémon since it first came and I still enjoy it to this day. I bought this book for myself as part of my collection and using this information to see what Pokémon evolve from or into (like I'm trying to complete my Pokedex on Pokémon X). This book has Pokémon from Gen I through Gen V only (Red/Blue through Black/White with no event Pokémon at that moment) and not a Pokedex order, rather order by the letter of the alphabet. I have no shame to continue reading this book and being as a Pokémon fan (age 22) and this is perfect for all ages, doesn't matter young or old, this is the best book I ever bought! :)
