What is it made out of? Plastic? Metal? Copper?

Hard plastic. It doesn't matter what it is made of, since it is the symbol of what it stands for in Feng Shui. It is really nice and I'm glad that I purchased it. It sits in the career area near my front door of my home within the bagua of Feng Shui towards the window. Elephants are not suppose to be facing the front door. Good Luck
