I LOVE THIS
I bought this to get Paul Schoenfeld's Cafe Music I heard on KMFA and loved it. But then there were all these other really good pieces that I hadn't heard before and it's classical jazz. I love it. Something modern instead of centuries old. I've only listened to it as samples and am now importing it but if you like any one piece on the list you will probably like the others. Aster PIazzolla's Primavera Portena and Verano Porteno, Just a Boy by Susan BOettger, The Diamond World by Eric Ewazen. Daniel Schnyder's Piano Trio Movement 1 and Paul Desmond's Take Five. I had only heard the first and last pieces and was worried but so much loved Cafe Music that I would take some lemons but these aren't lemons!

The Finest in Contemporary!!!
At first, I was skeptical about this album because there are numerous contemporary artists that are pretentious but lack talent. I ordered it because someone recommended it to me and I was stunned. True to its title, this album definitely has edge. The pianist is especially wonderful, making the most of each phrase and complimenting the group. If you are hesitant about ordering, take my advice and get it. You won't regret it!

For your listening pleasure
While searching for cello music from Alexander Zhiroff (Yanni's excellent cellist), I came across this CD from Classical Edge Trio. Being a huge fan of different types of music (especially Middle Eastern), I bought it. My husband and I both love this CD. My personal favorites are Just a Boy and The Diamond World but the whole CD is great. If you like cello, violin and piano and you like an eclectic mix of music, I highly recommend Edge.

Great Cross-over CD
One of the best CD's I own. Little-known group with a very original sound and a great selection that crosses over from Jazz to Classical

On the edge of jazz?
One of the things which has slipped a bit in recent years, when shopping for recorded music (CDs & vinyl) at the Amazon website is a track listing. Sometimes we can figure it out by going to the digital MP3 page, but not in this case.I came across this CD while searching for Paul Schoenfield compositions and/or performances. With a bit of effort, I realized that he is the composer of at least one work, and the price of the copy I bought was modest enough that I just took a chance that it was not something I already had. Good luck was forthcoming, this seems to be the only reasonably priced way to have hard-copy of his "Cafe Music". Works by others included are:Astor Piazzolla == Primavera Portena (Spring)Susan Boettger (also pianist in the trio) -- Just a BoyEric Ewazen -- The Diamond WorldDaniel Schnyder -- Piano Trio (Movement 1)and the track which you will get not even a hint at from the Amazon listing, which one reason for my taking the trouble to write, and part of the inspiration for my headline, along with the Schoenfield (at the very least):Paul Desmond (Arr, Susan Boettger()-- Take FiveFor those not familiar with Take Five, it boosted the Dave Brubeck Quartet from the status of successful jazz band to cultural legend. The EDGE CD not only has great components, mostly new to me, but is thoughtfully laid out. You can put it on, sit back and relax, or perhaps even dance a bit.And now, before I put my foot in my mouth,, I tppk the trouble to glance at some of the peripheral comments in the program notes and realize that what I was about to try to say in conclusion has been directly stated by the performers/composer."The name Classical Edge represents our mission to present works which integrate classical, popular, ethnic, and jazz musical influences, and perform them with a stylistic edge."If these comments interest you, I have also submitted a complementary (and complimentary!) review of the CD "Last Silence -- Paul Schoenfield".
