No, motion detection is from the front, not from the sides.

Does cold temperatures affect this to work?

I have not had any problems with cold weather.

Is their a warranty on these? Mine stopped working in just 2 weeks?

Don't know about a warranty. The steps to setup went well. Placed where l wanted it in backyard. I kept my eye on it. Didnt see any unwanted animals 1st day. Then its like it was attacking them to come, even seen a ground hog laying right beside it. Don't work for me.
