Japanese Kanji for JLPT N5
Having bought and studied from the JLPT N5 vocab book in this series, I was eager to get this and start perfecting my Kanji.I have already studied N5 Kanji from another mnemonic book and whilst it was ok, some of the links and descriptions were a little tenuous. This book is light on mnemonic devices to remember the individual Kanji (although some exist), but where this excels is in showing different examples of the Kanji in use. It does this using both the On and Kun versions and notes which version is the most common. Each page shows the Kanji, how to write it in the correct stroke order, three examples of other words made up with the Kanji and a final sentence with the Kanji in use. Not only did this clarify each Kanji for me, but it also taught me additional vocabulary.I made up flashcards on AnkiDroid with the information on each page and I've been revising ever since. This has similar Kanji to the other book I've studied from, as well as some new Kanji I'd not seen before. This is clear to work from and the examples really drive the Kanji home for me. This is an excellent series to study for the JLPT N5 and I've already purchased the grammar and reading comprehension books and can't wait to get into them.Well worth considering.

A few spelling and translation mistakes.
Whilst the book is very well written and easy to follow, very much ideal for 'beginner level' Kanji learners.I unfortunately came across a few mistakes... like the kanji for HIRUMA, ひるま- 昼間 meaning 'day time' is spelled HIROMA, ひろま, being the name for a room in which people tend to gather. Another mistake I found was when teaching the Kanji for IMA, いま- 今meaning 'now'. When giving an example sentence structure for this Kanji,"今年でニ十歳になりました" meaning I became twenty this year. It is unfortunately translated as 'I became thirty this year'. I found a few more mistakes like these throughout the book. I feel that it is important to make sure study books, especially for beginners studying for exams, are 100% correct and double checked to ensure that mistakes don't cause incorrect language use in written and conversational practice.
