The outside diameter of the wall clock is about 16 inches,the size of the face is about 12.8 inches.

Q: What is the size of the clock face for the 24 inch clock?

The size of the face is about 19.3 inches.

Q: Why does clock make strange noise?

Mine is silent. Not sure what kind of noise your clock is making. My only guess (and it's just a guess) that you may not have the right kind of battery installed causing the clock motor to hum? The manufacturer strongly suggest using Carbon Zinc batteries which I use and it runs well. I actually have two of these clocks and both work great.
