Helly HansenMen's Verglas Icefall Down Jacket Jacket

Bought this after my old puffer jacket started to lose its down (after 10 years). I initially bought a cheaper jacket a week or so earlier, but after a couple of days in the hills, I realised that was not suitable, so started over and bought the HH Verglas Icefall in concrete colour (I think it looks great going to the pub and is a neutral colour for walking in the hills).The old jacket I needed to replace was brilliant and I can immediately see this one is the perfect replacement. It's obviously well made, is very light and comfortable to wear. I did not get too hot too quickly upon exertion (the problem with the other jacket I initially bought to replace the old one). It packs down very easily into a rucksack. It comes with a stuff sack, if you prefer to use that. The hand pockets have zips and are well designed; my elbows are not at a wierd angle trying to get my hands in and even with a rucksack hipbelt, it is easy to do.I have worn it three times on long walks in the Pennines on dry days with temperatures just a couple of degrees above freezing with a hoodie and T-shirt underneath and it's ideal.As well as the two hand pockets and small inside zipped pocket there are two large poacher's pockets which are ideal for stashing an OS map. OS maps in pockets often feel uncomfortable and I end up either carrying the map in my hand or putting it back in the rucksack, neither of which is ideal so this is a great solution.I found the sizing was spot on. I am overweight and am trying to change that, am 6 foot tall and found the size XL perfect. Room for a couple of layers underneath, plenty of room to move around. Although it's a warm puffer jacket, in no way do I feel restricted or that I look like the Michelin man.The storm cuffs have velcro fastening and are easy to use even with gloves on. The hood is tightened using drawcords. There are three on the hood. The rear cinch on back of the hood pulls it closer round the head. The upper ones at the front tighten the brim while the lower ones tie to bring it closer round the chin. The main zip is of a decent make and has a flap on the inside.There are a couple of negatives but they are minor. The inside zipped pocket is just big enough for a phone. You might get a wallet in there as well but it might feel uncomfortable and look odd. The other thing is the way the built-in hood is tightened using drawcords. Although effective they are a bit fiddly and - if your hands are numb with cold and the weather has suddenly deteriorated - that is not a good thing. However, getting to know how they work before they are needed will make life easier.All in all, I am delighted with this jacket.
