I need to move this refrigerator in in SUV, can it be placed on its side or does it need to remain upright?

All refrigeration product should only be transported in an upright position to avoid damage to the sealed system. However, if you have no other options, then transport the unit on the right side (when facing the fridge) and return it to an upright position as soon as possible and allow it to rest for 24 hours prior to plugging it back in.
