Q: Is this comparable to Japanese printing paper?

The Strathmore 300 Series Printmaking Paper is not very similar to Japanese Printmaking Papers. The Strathmore version is much thicker and heavier, with a smooth, uniform surface.

Q: I know this paper handles some water, but does the surface of the paper flake off upon a second coat of water?

Thank you for your question! Our 300 Series Printmaking paper is considered excellent for Relief (Woodcut and Linocut), very good for Silkscreen and Letterpress, and good for Intaglio (Etching), Lithography, Graphite Pencil/Dry Media, Charcoal, Pen and Ink, Marker, and Oil Pastel. We do not recommend light or heavy washes on this paper.

Q: Is this a bright white paper?

No it is not: Natural white paper ideal for relief printing, such as block or linocut, practicing, and proofing. Medium-textured surface is soft, durable, and can absorb large amounts of ink. 30 sheets. Contains alpha cellulose wood fiber.
