Affordable, well designed, perfect for 4 bikes and light use.
I just bought this two weeks ago and took it on a week long trip to FL with two bikes on it. So I havent fully tested it with four bikes, but I have put the two right next to each other and had no problems. I have an old Acura MDX with 2" hitch. It was super easy to install out of the box, 20 minutes max: 8 threaded bolts with washers. It attaches to the hitch with another bolt that required a wrench. The unit pivots to 90 degrees (with no bikes) and flat with a quick spin bolt that requires hands only and takes 15 seconds to switch back and forth. I took it off easily and stored it efficiently after the trip. Based on reviews it's much lighter than many comparable systems at under 40 lbs. There are plastic straps that easily ratchet into another plastic piece. If those break at some point, i'm sure they can be replaced. the tire pads are also plastic, but seem fairly sturdy. The pop up U bars (held up by aluminum wires you squeeze easily into a hole in the side of the base) hold the bike in place with one strap per bike. The black part appears to be powder coated steel, which meets my needs of light use. The bikes were very sturdy and barely moved after a fairly quick installation. I didnt get paid for this and am only reviewing because I wasted a lot of time going between low and high reviews of a number of products to see if I could discern the truth. This is a very affordable and well designed solution. I cant speak to durability but for my needs of occasional use for a family of four, it fit the bill perfectly!

Fantastic Bike Rack
This rack is absolutely fantastic. I've used it about 8 weekends in a row now and no problems, taking usually 3-4 bikes each time. Assembly took me about an hour, it wasn't bad just screwing a bunch of bolts in and I didn't have a power tool. I was able to assemble and put the bike rack on my SUV without any help. The bolt for the hitch comes with the rack and is threaded. It comes with a wrench to tighten it. However, it does not come with a bolt lock. I bought the Heininger 6033 Advantage SportsRack 1.25" Threaded Receiver Trailer Lock The lock that comes with this bolt attaches perfectly to the original rack bolt so you can use your original bolt and keep the bolt the lock comes with as an extra. I can easily fit 4 adult road bikes on this. You have enough slack pushing bikes forward or backward so handlebars and seats don't clash while loading. My mountain bikes also fit, I only have 2, but I have no doubt that 4 adult mountain bikes would fit with some fidgeting. Basically to mount, you put the bike on the rack and those plastic straps attached to the wheel cups go through a spoke and secure down both the rear and front tire, this keeps your bike and tires very locked down. Then you use a ratchet strap to secure the frame of the bike to the U bar that comes up, this keeps the bike stable on the rack. The U bar has a rubber grip for each bike so your frame won't get scratched in contact with the u-bar. If you lose these straps, or when they eventually break or fray they are cheaply replaceable from a trip to home depot. It is also very easy to use standard bike lock u-bars or cables to each bike to keep them from being stolen if you need to leave your bikes on your rack unsupervised. It takes my riding group only ~5 minutes to load up our bikes and be on our way. No rattling, no swaying, and the bikes feel very secure. The rack is locked to my SUV, and it takes just another minute if we need to put locks on the bikes to keep them secure on the rack. This rack is fantastic at transporting 4 bikes and at a fraction of the price of a thule.

Hassle to Mount Bikes
I got this because I didn't want to pay $600 for a comparable Yakima or $1,000 for a Thule. Also, I didn't want a rack that stuck out too far from the hitch. Overall, this is a good bike rack. It seems well built and is relatively lightweight. The downside is how much effort it takes to mount bikes onto it. Unlike other models, this rack does NOT have adjustable wheel cradles (several others allow the cradles to slide left or right for bike placement). This means that if your bike's seat hits another bike's handlebars, you can't just slide it over to one side a few inches. Your only option is to find a different position for your bike. In my case, every position I tried, the high saddle on my gravel bike hit the handle bars of other bikes. I actually needed to use a hex key to lower my seat. Also, many other racks have an upside-down "J" bar that clamps down on the bike frame. This model has straps that loop around the frame. While I think the straps may actually be more secure, they are a PAIN to attach. They are not permanently attached to the rack, so they tend to fall off the rack. They require threading through a slot on the rack, looping around the frame, threading through a plastic gasket, and threading through a metal latch. That's a lot of threading. Overall, I think it takes more effort to load bikes onto the rack than it does to put down the rear seats in my wife's mini-van and roll each bike in (even if I have to remove front wheels). I am concerned that the plastic wheel straps and latches are a weak point and may eventually break. Some other reviewers complained that their came broken -- I could see that happening. If that does happen, I will just replace the plastic strap with a fabric strap (like they ones they have for the frames). The bikes did feel very secure once loaded, but I will be looking for easier ways to mount the bikes, as this is not practical. If you don't have the option to load the bikes into the back of a minivan, this is rack is still a great buy. If you're looking to save time loading bikes for a quick trip, this rack is probably not going to save you time. By the way... Do NOT get the Master Lock they recommend as "frequently bought together" with this rack -- IT DOES NOT FIT! This rack requires a "threaded" lock pin. The Master Lock is not a threaded pin.

Excellent 4-bike carrier!!!
Excellent bike carrier especially for the price. It's not the most elegant but it does the job very well. It's light compared to other bike carriers and I can mount it to my Nissan Armada by myself. Initially, I used it to carry 4 bikes (one 24-inch, two 26-inch and one 27.5-inch tires) to and from the local trail that's about 10 miles one-way from home. I delayed the review until after I put this bike carrier to the ultimate test. During our annual family road trip, we got to bring our bikes from Texas all the way up to Acadia National Park in Maine - about 5,170 miles round-trip! On the road, I didn't feel any rattling and swaying as the anti-rattle threaded bolt worked really well. Even with the occasional potholes, bumps and uneven roads the carrier didn’t budge. Excellent performance by a light and inexpensive bike carrier. If you have bikes with bigger than 24" tires, most likely you will not be able to open the lift gate glass of your SUV. I didn't follow the recommendation of loading the smallest & lightest bike last. I loaded the smallest bike first so I have (barely) enough clearance to open the rear glass when I needed to. It was a very long road trip with all our stuff loaded into the back of the SUV so I needed the access and only on occasions like this will I use this loading scheme. Finally, its worth mentioning here that a lot of people took notice of the rack. The salesman from the local bike shop wanted to get one and also there were some people in the parking lots and trailheads taking pictures of the rack. Pros: light, does not rattle and sway, does not cost more than any of our bikes! Cons: straps can fall off and get lost if not looped into the latch when not in use, cannot be reduced to a 2-bike carrier (not an issue for me but may be for some) Overall, I'm very satisfied with this purchase and will recommend to anyone looking for a carrier that will both not break the back and bank.

Great tray-based bike rack
This is a review for the 4-bike Trimax Road-MAX Hitch Mount Tray. After 3 months of usage and various trips near and far with 3 bikes mounted, I am glad I haved purchased this unit. The bike rack is solely built by thick heavy steel and covered by a thick coat powder paint. You can tell that the rack will weather the time well. Bikes are secured onto the rack by a 3-point fastening system. One belt to tighten and secure the bike's frame and two other belts to lock down the front and rear tires. This design is simple and intuitive, it is actually smart. Here is the summary: Pros: - Affordable - Strong and durable - 3-point securing system - Kit also comes with locking pins, lock and key, custom made 19mm wrench - Foldable - Elegance in simplicity Cons: - All steel construction makes rack a bit heavy - 3 bikes mounting is good but 4 bikes can be a little crowded Tips: - After sliding the rack into the hitch and the locking bolt is aligned, I use a white masking tape to mark the spot so that I know exactly how far to slide in next time - Try to fasten the bike's frame first before securing the tires - Always fold up the rack after dismounting bikes so that other people won't run into it

Great Bike Rack for Family of 4
This bike rack has worked great for me. It checked off all the boxes on what I was looking for. It goes on and off the car quickly. Bikes attach relatively quickly as well so in 10 minutes you are ready to go. When you get to the trail it only takes about 5 minutes to unload all the bikes and start riding. I have a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the trunk opens as long as no bikes are attached, so I never have to use the pivot option. I just load my gear / dog in the trunk, then close the trunk up, attach the bikes real fast and head on out. There is very little wobble on the road at slow or fast speeds (have tested it up to 75mph). It keeps the bikes pretty high above the road so I'm not worried about the bikes hitting the ground when I hit potholes or bumps. I wish it came with a hitch pin lock, but I live in Denver and stopped by their store to pick one up (cost less than $10). I tried to purchase a different hitch pin with lock but it wasn't compatible since the original hitch pin is threaded. I recommend ordering that item from them directly. Overall this is a great bike rack that is easy to operate and actually fits 4 bikes, unlike other similar bike racks that I have tried in the past.

Good rack for the money, some room for improvement
I should preface by stating this is a good rack for the price. It's sub $300 (about $255 at the time of purchase last year) and it is hard to find a good quality bike rack for less than $300. There are a number of features that I think work well such as the fold up design when installed on the hitch (so the bike rack doesn't protrude from the back of the vehicle when not in use), as well as the two u shaped "arms" that fold down flat to allow the rear hatch to be opened (when there are no bikes on it of course). The rack is lifted high enough off of the ground that I can drive in and out of my pretty steep driveway without hitting the ground which was a big concern with some other designs. The overall construction is robust and has been problem free on all of our rides on both the freeway and undulated and twisty roads. Once loaded bikes are very secure and I don't have any concern about bikes falling off the rack. I've loaded 4 bikes on it with no problem. That being said I think there are a few issues with this type of rack which you should be aware of. The first of which is the straps which hold the tires down could definitely be longer. My bike (27.5 x 2.5 tire) barely fits and I can only get a maximum of 2 "clicks" of engagement on each. My daughters 20x2.8" tire bike also barely fits due to the short length of these ratcheting straps. I would increase the length of these by another 2 inches if possible in future iterations. It is fairly slow to mount and un-mount bikes so keep that in mind. You have to first place the bike in, strap each wheel down, then use the nylon strap and cinch it to the U shaped upright. Once in the rack it's really in there, but it takes time. This is even more true when you are putting 2+ bikes on the rack as due to the close spacing you have to do some Tetris like arrangement to keep pedals and bars from each bike from occupying the same space. Sometimes it requires dropping a seat down or swapping a bike the other way. This is compared to some of the nicer racks (which of course all of my friends have) which are as easy as drop the bike into the rack, move a bar that cinches down on the wheel and boom you are done. Their racks are also 2x the cost so there's that. It's very difficult to put two adult sized bikes side by side, even pointing in opposite directions on the rack. For our family we are OK as we usually go Adult/child/Adult/child in terms of mounting sequence. If you plan on carrying 4 adult sized bikes I might look at a different rack. This is a pro or a con depending on how you look at it. Some racks protrude further from the vehicle which might be undesirable depending on your situation. The rack does not come with a locking trailer hitch pin so if you are concerned about someone stealing your rack at the trailhead you can buy one on amazon (there are a lot to choose from). Overall for the price I've been very pleased.

Does Not Work
Bought this bike carrier and did not use it for a while. When used for the first time it did not work. Unfortunately, our bikes fell off on the road half way during our trip. Needed to stop to pick up bikes off the road and put them in our trunk. Not pleased with this purchase. Have not used it ever since and will not use it anymore. Product needs improvement.

Solid and looks good
Worked great for 3 bikes so far, feel like I'd have enough room for 4th as well. Seemed solid on journey, no noise or noticable wobbling from it on highway. Fold down design works well to access trunk and the in built lock for the bikes and hitch are super handy. No complaints for the money.

Quite flimsy and Lightweight
Judging by the weight this seems like a weak product, the straps, and the mounting mechanism is all plastic and has no metal parts whatsoever. Don't really like it, would recommend for you to get another rack.
