Place it behind the passenger side, if you’re shorter. It you’re 6’ tall, it will be too crowded. You may try it in the middle, but it may still affect the front passengers.

How deep does the vehicle seat have to be for rear facing and for forward facing?

This seat is hard to install properly while rear facing because of its height. The angle of the seat has a lot to do with it. We have a rav4 and a Prius the Prius actually fit better because of the streeper seating angle. They sell a foam angle adjuster that does pretty well in the rav4, but if I was much taller (I'm 5'9") it'd be a tight squeeze up front (the car seat is not supposed to touch the seat in front of it.) These are very well made though and much higher quality than many other seats in the same price range. Plus you can fit 3 across in every vehicle. I'd recommend to anyone.
