Has its quirks but...
The media could not be loaded. Short version: This device has its quirks but does what it says it does at a great value for the money. This device can be used in a variety of environments from lighting candles at home or event to campfires and crafting. The device has some quirks, but once you know what they are, you’ll likely want this rechargeable electric candle lighter if only to store it in your disaster preparedness and camping tool kit. The low tech video is a fast demonstration of how the device works. Now let’s take a deeper look at this rechargeable electric candle lighter.I liked:1) Being able to use one hand to light a candle. I have joint pain in my fingers all the time. Before this gift card purchase, I was using a long handle traditional flame candle lighters.Because of the joint pain, I was required to use two hands - one thumb to hold the safety switch forward. The second hand painfully pulled the flame trigger. By the time one candle was lit, my entire hands were hurting. If the candle did not light, I had to start the painful process again. If you have no hand joint pain, this may not matter.During winter storm Uri in Texas in 2021, my traditional gas flame candle lighter ran out of fossil fuel gas. Because if the ice and snow then more ice and more snow, our supply chain was broken. I’ll cut this part of the story short to state my philosophy on being prepared for the unexpected:—- You don’t know what you need until you need it the most. —-Without electricity, I had no heat. What I had was — a gas fireplace. My fireplace had been professionally inspected a few years in the past. While my neighbors fled their homes because they were fearful of lighting their gas fireplaces, I stayed in my home. It’s a long story but when people see even one neighbor moving around outside, the street is safer from looters. I made sure to make a daily appearance. We were without electricity for days. My candles melted down one by one but I was able to keep the fireplace lit and one room warm. I used candles to light my gas stove. I kepta window cracked open to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. What does my story have to do with this rechargeable electric candle lighter? Not only were all my joints hurting, the traditional gas flame long handle candle lighter ran out of fossil fuel gas. That’s right, if the gas to the house was turned off, I would have no way to light even a fire pit. Since that winter storm, I have been in a mission to find all of my old fashioned DIY camp fire tool, tips, and tricks. The next time the grid fails, we might also lose access to natural gas. This almost happened too. When this opportunity to purchase this candle with a gift card appeared, I was thinking, “Yes!” I need all the fire lighting capabilities I can find to add to my stove lighting tool kit.Being able to light this candle with one hand is important.2) Safety features. The safety features won’t stop a determined child but neither will a fossil fuel candle lighter. It is the adult’s responsibility to train their children to respect items that can harm them. This candle light has a tool to help adults. The slider button shows how much power remains in the electric candle lighter. It’s an “on” button. The slider button also shows how much power remains in the internal battery.Safety Feature #1.The power will only turn on when the slider button is in the “on” position and the power level blue dots light up. If you are in bright light, shade the slider area with your other hand or other shade and you will see the blue dots. There’s no benefit to hold onto the slider switch like I did because I thought the rechargeable electric candle lighter operated like the fossil fuel lighter. Once the slider lights up the blue dots, the device is “on.”Safety Feature #2To activate the electric lighter part, push to round or oval button. The device will be “live” for about 9 seconds or so. A lot of candles can be lit in 9 seconds. After about 9 seconds the device with stop. This is a safety feature.Let the device rest for about 6 seconds and the rechargeable electric candle lighter will be ready to light more candles without additional joint pain.Safety Feature 3Electric tip did not remain hot for more than a few seconds BUT Keep in mind that the tip WILL BE HOT for a few seconds after using it. Use good judgement and keep away from anything or any one who could be burned just as if it was a hair curling tool or flat iron which are far hotter than this electrical candle lighter. Keep this tool away from children and irresponsible adults just as you would fossil fuel lighters and electrical appliances.3) I really liked the blue dots that show the power levels.4) I also liked that the rechargeable electric candle lighter was lightweight for home or camping.5) The rechargeable internal battery can be recharged using your own charger like you would recharge a cell phone. I used my iPhone electrical USB port with the supplied cable. I received two devices and each had its own cable. If you do not have a wall charger, laptops, tablet, or other battery pack with a USB charging port, you must order one. My devices arrived with a charge. I recommend recharging them when the internal batteries are low or boosting the charge every 6 months or so. I turned the device on and off over 100 times before it lost power. Holding down the round/oval button the full 9 seconds causes the device to lose power faster.6) This device was successfully recharged with a Rockpals 500 watt lithium battery which in turn can be recharged with a generator, portable solar panel or a portable battery pack for high consumption cell phones. I am still experimenting with this zero fossil fuel method of recharging the internal battery of this rechargeable electric candle lighter. The Rockpals was purchased for car camping long periods away from electricity but became my only source of power during winter storm Uri. I highly remind this rechargeable candle lighter for grid failures during natural disasters. I never thought a grid failure would occur in the southern portion of Central Texas. I never considered that my area would become so frozen.7) I like that this device works in the cold.So what did I do to test the ability of this device to function in freezing weather, yes I did leave this device in my deep freezer overnight.Yes it did work just fine the next day. There was a slight hesitation at first. I warmed the tip enclosed in my fist for about a minute. Next the device lit a candle with no problem.I don’t advise you doing this test so that you don’t void any return or warranty. My house was exceedingly cold. I needed to know the cold limit of this device. I have not wet the device. Instead I tested the device on damp straw. Not thinking the straw would light, you can see in the video that I was startled when the straw lit. Campers and hurricane survivors need to know to store the device where it will be kept dry, but it will light a damp - not wet - item like straw. Let the starter material dry then light it. This device lit my gas stove. This device melted plastic.8) Although this item was purchased with a gift card, I the two for one offer is a great value. What didn’t I like? Well — I have learned that if I don’t tell people something wrong about a product - people won’t trust my reviews. Sellers sometimes don’t like it but others understand that cons don’t stop buyers - they help find the right buyers. What happens to be a con for me might be a plus for you.1) The first device I tried to use had a button that would stick in the “down” position. The second divide in the same delivery did not have any issues. This meant that I had to use a pin to raise the button. After freezing the device in my deep freezer, the locking stopped. I used the device many times without additional problems. There may have been a simpler way, but after the freezer experiment, I had no way to try a different method.2) The switches look and feel like cheap plastic.3) Actually, I like the zzzzztttt sound when the electricity is flowing at the tip of the device. I know the device is working even when the light is bright outside. I like the electrical arc sound. I have a nature and science background. My tolerance for science stuff is high. I placed the sound here as a con because some people may not like the sound.Do I recommend this product to friends and family? Yes, I do. Be sure to try the features right away because there is a time limit on returns.Who do I recommend this product?- For individuals with arthritis and joint pain, this candle lighter turns lighting candles into a joyful experience.- Anyone creating a disaster plan needs this device in their tool kit along with other fire starters. Not only did my fossil fuel lighter run out of fuel, my backup fossil fuel lighter did not work again until the house warmed.- Anyone wanting to reduce landfill waste. The batteries are not officially replaceable but can be recycled in some areas. I am sure there are some engineering minds out there and perhaps the manufacturer will create a product that has replaceable batteries. Lithium batteries are pricey. My hope is that someday the manufacturer will create a replaceable battery.— Anyone wanting to use their rechargeable solar battery.— Anyone who doesn’t like flames.—- Artists and crafters.—- Campers—- RVers—- Gardeners—- Farmers—- Ranchers—- Mechanics—- Tech people and creators.—- Event planners.—- Leather workers.—- people who just want to light a candle.I’ll always keep my DIY no-tech campfire kit ready, but this device has many good uses.As always, thank you for sharing your time to read this far on my review. I care about the potential buyer because I know how I felt when people too the time to write detailed reviews. When the products arrived, I knew their pros and cons and was happy with my purchase. My reviews are specifically for you the potential purchaser. It’s easy to slap a 5 star and “Love it!!!” on a product. I don’t “love” things. I “love” people - and my dogs. I can say that this product was a device I wish I had during winter storm Uri in Central Texas and I’m glad I have this rechargeable electric candle lighter. If you received any beneficial information from this review, I would appreciate your “helpful” vote.Your helpful vote keeps me inspired to improve my writing skills. I want to keep returned products out of the landfill. It is my belief that if I am honest with you about the pros and cons of a product, you will feel confident in your purchase decision. The reviewers are your eyes, hands, and ears. The video is not fancy. My hands were spiked from working in my garden - sorry. The video is for you to see the rechargeable candle lighter in action in a real setting. The video is low tech, but you may find that seeing the device in action helps understand that the device works for lighting a candle and damp (not wet) straw that simulates kindling for a campfire. Cheers ~

Love that it is rechargeable
The media could not be loaded. Great two pack of electric lighters. No more need to refill with gas. Simply recharge with USB charger provided. The neck bends to reach inside jars. Lights on body tell you how full the battery charge is. Push the on/off button up and then push round ignition button. Nice safety feature prevents it from lighting if you wait more than 7 seconds between turning it on and lighting it. Works great. Lit my candles nicely and also lit the burner on our gas stove.

Cool, but a little annoying.
These actually work pretty good for both lighting candles and the wood stove, and I'm still on the initial charge. They make a small arc with a sizzling whine noise that did slightly annoy my wife. They light paper, candles, and firestarter with ease. They do take a little longer than a lighter to get it lit sometimes, but it so close that if you have to try twice to light the lighter than it's faster. The big issue with these is the safety lock and timeout functions. The safety lock is a slider that is not spring loaded, and times out after an idle period or a fairly short time of trying to light. You can't hold it between multiple wicks, and sometimes it will time out if something doesn't want to light. To try again, you have to slide the safety to off and then on again, and then hit the light button. With this setup the timeout is short enough to be annoying. I still prefer it over a standard lighter for candles, but I definitely keep a torch around to light the wood stove if needed.

Great lighters to have on hand
Great rechargeable lighter to have on hand. There is a seven second safety that shuts the lighter off (you can immediately re-ignite it) that can make lighting brand new candles difficult, but in my experience, lighting brand new candles for the first time can be difficult no matter what you're using. This gadget at least keeps your fingers and fingernails a safe distance away from an open flame. One thing I really like about these electric lighters that have the little plasma line is that only what is placed between the prongs touching the plasma or electric line will catch. You don't have to worry about the metal overheating or an open flame heating the surfaces you may be holding. We were able to use this with quick light charcoal. Again, with the seven second safety shut off, you might have to reignite the lighter a time or two (we did not have to with a brand new bag of quick light charcoal). If you are using lighter fluid to help start the fire, there is less danger of the fumes catching causing the hair singing "fwoosh".Easily lights cigarettes, easily reaches the wicks in the tall candle jars that end up halfway (or more) down the jar after hours of burning. Comes with the USB charging cord. The first week I had this I used it to light pretty much everything I needed to light and had to charge it the first time after about 2 days. Not bad- it did light a lot (2 packs of cigarettes, a brand new 3 wick candle which was then relit several times, a brand new 2 wick candle which was also relit several times and a new one wick candle that was relit twice and the charcoal for the grill once). After lighting all that the lighter wasn't completely dead, but it did start cutting out sooner than seven seconds. Plugged it in to a USB port and it was fully charged, ready to go in about 30-45 minutes (sorry, I can't remember exactly how long it took, just that it was less than an hour.)I don't know what the full lifetime of these lighters are, but for the price of a two pack you will easily get your money's worth.
