A believable, penetrating and terrifying novel about living in Maoist China.
A difficult read because of the subject matter. A terrifying place to live, Maoist China. The ending was deflating but the prose is unmatched, under Eileen Chang’s perceptive writing.

A sad tale in the end
Lots of communist elements here in the writing that made me feel very surreal when reading the terminology and thought processes these people were imbued with back then. Still a great story by one of my favorite authors. Enjoyed it.

An interesting exploration of life as a young person in Mao’s China
I don’t entirely know how to feel about this book as I’ve ready most of it in the past five hours.I think I like it.
