Phoenix (Steele Shadows Rising) (Steele Shadows Investigations)

I discovered Amanda McKinney and her Berry Springs world a year or so ago and voraciously read everything by her until there was nothing left to read. Every character and storyline has not disappointed this reader at all! When the Steele Shadows Cabin 1, 2 and 3 books came out I was hooked. I won't give up any spoilers but oh MAN- after Cabin 1 I was devastated when it seemed that Phoenix would not get a story of his own. Well, here it is and I am pretty sure he is my favorite brother! He is strong, sexy and flawed. I appreciated the battle he had to embark on to get back to health mentally after his accident. And ROSE! Wow- what a character. The thing I love about Amanda's books are they move quickly, have fantastic storylines, the characters "spark" and you can feel the attraction, and she manages to develop the characters with just enough back story to not bore you, but to totally get who they are and where they are coming from. And there is just enough steam to have you reading with your AC turned down a few notches! ;) Rose "Flower" was strong, feisty, and the perfect person to help Feen get his life back on track- and to a place I am sure he had no idea he was going! I LOVED it and highly recommend the book. Read and fall in love with with these amazing two characters, AND the author! PS. Get busy Amanda! I need Jagger's story ASAP! <3

A story filled with suspense, danger, healing, heart break and love. The story started off with gripping tension that tied my gut up in knots. I was riveted from the beginning to the end and was begging for more. This author has a way with words and has an uncanny ability to bring her characters to life before my very eyes. I could feel their emotions, the dialogue and the thread of the incredible human mind was awesome. I found the bit about evolution a very interesting concept. Phoenix, yes, was very hot, but a real character, one I could associate with. And Rose’s alter ego was fun, I loved her fighting spirit. On the surface they appear to be opposites but were really a great match for each other. Highly recommend this book, ‘trust me on that’ you will not be disappointed. This is a stand alone book that was so well done given its own independence from the Awesome Cabin book series. I look forward to more of the Steel Shadows crew from this multi talented author. A standalone with an HEA.

First, I really enjoyed the book, but I do have my complaints. Normally when you have a series characters from the previous books make an appearance or are at least mentioned. In each of the first three books a brother found his love, but there was never a complete ending, no marriage. You guess it will flow into the next book, but no. There is never any mention of the three women that each brother ended up with in their prospective story. I found that strange, they weren't even mentioned! Did these relationships end? The brothers are all mentioned and in each of the books, if they were still in relationships you'd think that there would be at least a mention of them? I found that very strange . My other complaint with this whole series, we had serious situations but at the end they never really explained the details in the outcome. Why did this person go after the h? How did the villain get their information? How were they able to access the homes? A professional security team and multiple times their headquarters were accessed? Seems really wrong that if they have their clients staying on their property that people can just come and go on the property, that there isn't a security gate? These issues come from a combination of the whole series but you get my frustration and annoyance.

I was never happier to know a character was still alive as I was for Phoenix. To see him overcome his injuries and become an even better version of himself is just awesome. Having a traumatic brain injury is not something that can be explained only experienced and I think the author has done an exceptional job of drawing this distinction. Rose is magnificent and the perfect foil for his character. They both desperately needed each other to heal. Their explosive arguments are epic. I certainly did not see who her stalker was coming, great job on that! This series goes down as one of my all time favorites ever.

This still Org has p PTSD and the trails and what the military goes through when they come home and anyone else that goes through stuff, looking forward to reading more books from this author

Definitely 10 STAR Worthy read in my opinion, I couldn't put it down but had to, to get some sleep. Phoenix was an incredibly complicated injured soul we all could relate to unfortunately from somewhere in our life. The lessons he learns really connected to me as relatable and the suspense was a huge 10. Thank you Amanda McKinney for writing a movie worthy story. 💞

3.5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐💫 I really like Phoenix and Rose’s story, but there are missing elements which keep this from being a 5-star read. If you haven’t read the previous stories which center around Phoenix’s brothers’ love lives, you would have no idea that each of his brothers had found and should be together with their own true loves. Also, there’s no real explanation of why Phoenix was shot. I expected to read further resolution about that in this book. Also, with that whole backstory missing it could be confusing to someone who had not read the previous books. Those issues aside, this is a suspenseful, intriguing tale with a surprising twist for the whodunit and why. The emotions are intense, the intrigue suspenseful, and the passion hot and steamy. There is a level of fascination in this story that will keep you thoroughly involved, making for a very interesting read.

Phoenix is finally out of the hospital; but now referred to therapy to deal with residual anger issues relating to head trauma he incurred. He is assigned a local therapist who not only gets under his skin but also becomes his biggest challenge. When she is threatened; and also everyone becomes aware there is a serial killer on the loose; he will do everything possible to protect her. A shocking conclusion.

4.5 stars. A slow burn romance with suspense and drama. Well written and engrossing. Phoenix was injured in the book 'Cabin 1' and was in a coma in 'Cabin 2' and 'Cabin 3'. He now has to cope with this injury, as well as try and find out who is stalking his love interest, psychologist Rose, who has hidden secrets. You don't need to read the Cabin series, as this book stands alone re the story and romance. His brothers briefly appear as side characters, but nothing is reveled about their stories.

Five Stars aren't enough!! This series of books are amazing, however Phoenix's story quickly became my favourite. You will not be disappointed in this series or in this book. Highly recommend!!

I loved the story however I would like to have had some crossover from the other books. Given the timeline the other brothers have met their women however they are never mentioned that was a shame as I like books that stories lock together On the whole it is a good read and I would recommend it to other readers.

Really enjoy reading these books, they are easy to read. No I cant love them and so forth. But the only thing was tje brothers partners were never mentioned and this one made out Gage was still sleeping around considering he was the first one to find love. The twists were really good. Like step mother being the bad person. But in this one its not even mentioned. Or Feens time in hospital and what he heard etc. There was definitely inconsistency in this story to cabin 1,2 and 3 about family and situations. But saying that really enjoyed and loved the horse.

Filled with sizzling chemistry, sexual tension, suspense and danger. This book was beautifully written. I stayed up all night because I could not put down this book for any reason
