Drawn and Quarterly Shenzhen: A Travelogue from China

A very short travelogue by Guy Delisle
One of the shortest travelogues by Guy Delisle, Shenzhen is an account of Delisle's stay in the Chinese city for 3 months on a work assignment. It's an extremely fast paced narrative and takes you through the writer's daily life in Shenzhen, which feels pretty bland and monotonous in some parts. It is his first attempt at writing such a book if we go by chronology, so it has turned out to be pretty basic. Shenzhen is one of Delisle's rather unpleasant experiences and he makes it a point to convey that to the reader. He takes weekend trips to Hong Kong and Canton where is much more comfortable and happy. The book ends on an abrupt note as he wraps up his last day in the city. The ending is a tad bit unfulfilling, but now that I have read most of Guy Delisle's travelogues, I am able to notice the subtle changes in his art style over time and how his caricatures capture the essence of each city perfectly.

the content is too old, not reflecting the current picture but it's still a great book.very good presentation of the life experience as usual.

Clever, insightful, behind the scene view of modern China's miracle city
Guy Delisle has an amazing track record of going to places most people don't even visit, much less live (Pyongyang anyone?) due to his cartooning craft and bringing the absurdities and sly political observations and well drawn imagings to life. Love his work. This is a real eye opener about the modern Chinese condition.

Very good!
Another wonderful graphic novel from Guy Delisle, I definitely love his style and his way to describe so different countries.Better than "Burma chronicles" in my opinion, but the best I've read till now remains "Pyongyang"
