The Maine House: Summer and After

I grew up in Maine and always dream about buying a house there again some day - this book is a mix of nostalgia and inspiration for me and I love having it on my coffee table. Guests have also loved leafing through the beautiful images.

I love this book! Beautifully edited with great photography. I keep it on my coffee table and my puppy chewed the binding. I ordered a new one for the coffee table and use the damaged one to look through.

I love Maine and I love house books and this is the best of both. The photos are gorgeous and each of the homes included is unique. None seem “ decorated.” They are all quirky and original, individually designed by people who love living by the water and who appreciate Maine’s beauty and wildness. To see E.B. White’s writing shack, inside and out, is a special treat. Kudos to the authors/photographers for carefully selecting homes that capture the essence of Maine. I know this is one design book I will look at again and again, whenever I need a little bit of Maine peace and inspiration.

This book is so beautiful and gives you an amazing insight on nature, beauty and simple interior design to accent and preserve these architectural splendors. A wonderful view with spectacular photography embracing Maine and its beauty. One of the best books I have ever purchased.

I’ve been wanting this book for a long time, but I didn’t want to pay full price as I’ve learned over the years that they don’t have lasting enjoyment value for me. I read them once and rarely look at them again.So… I purchased this one used. And it was slightly more used than I’m comfortable with, the binding is wobbly and the bottom edge of the binding is broken down. I expect the pages will begin to come out at some point.However I believe that it was as advertised, so this is on me, not the seller. The book is as lovely as I’d hoped, and I’m enjoying the text and the beautiful photography.I would purchase this book again as a gift, but not used!

Having been born and raised in Maine, I am always excited -- or skeptical -- about new books on Maine houses and interiors. My excitement is that a book will capture the real charm and essence of this unique state -- and my skepticism is that it won't. Thus I was completely overwhelmed with joy and nostalgia at my first go-through with this very well-thought-out ode to quintessential Maine architecture and interiors. I could easily live in any of these dwellings, that's how well-presented the photos are. And the spread pages are glorious -- a true feast for the eyes! Brava to the authors and photographer who have given me many moments, pieces and memories of growing up and living Down East to revel in over and over.

I will never get to Maine and if I did, I would never get to see these houses. Just the right amount of description. Mostly beautiful pictures of homes that have been there for years and have created wonderful memories for generations. Makes you wish you could have been one of the lucky ones who grew up there!

I ordered this book because Maine Decor Magazine said that it was pointing out the plight of original, authentic Maine houses that are threatened and disappearing. I was looking for REAL, which I felt I got when I saw the old Saltonstall homes, but others were definitely homes of the wealthy and decorators. So, I was disappointed, but the photos are truly lovely. The thing is I felt like I ate a lot of dessert without getting a real meal.

Absolutely love this coffee table book ! I think this is one of the best quality and beautifully curated coffee table books I have purchased! I can’t wait for the second one to be released!
