Great Release
As a De la Iglesia fan, it is great to see those 4k releases of his films, and Perdita Durango is no exception, really fine sound/picture quality. If you have not seen the film you are in for a wild ride, the film also has a stellar cast, a part from the main stars you will also find the great Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and James Gandolfini. Highly recommended 4k release from Severin.

Not for everyone but one of my fave cult films
I've loved this movie for years and had a bootleg copy. I was thrilled to see this 4k version available. It's violent but also funny with a killer cast

How did I NOT Know About this Movie!
This movie is awesome!!! Why did this film not get much love and/or a release back in the day?! The film is basically a film that if Pulp Fiction and Natural Born Killers had a baby...Perdita Durango would be it. Rosie Perez plays Perdita Durango who is the same character that Isabella Rossalini played in David Lynch's Wild at Heart. Both Rosie Perez and Javier Bardem are at their finest!!! I watched the cut version which was called Dance With the Devil. Javier does reference the Batman line too. Everyone in this film is bad a$$! It also has a young and also brilliant James Gandolfini in it. Not going to lie, I felt sad watching that we will not see anything new from him. Javier's brother Carlos Bardem is in it and is uber awesome along with a young Demián Bichir. Both Aimee Graham, Heather Graham's sister in real life, and Harley Cross do an excellent job as the hostages. Plus, Screamin Jay Hawkins!!! In the end, this movie should of gotten more attention and love when it came out. I didn't know anything about it until Severin advertise this fully unrated version and 4K restoration was coming out. I bought a cheap $3 dvd version of Dance With The Devil just to see what I was in store for and I want more!!! I will definitely be picking this up here on Amazon!!! Oh, lots of blood, nudity and dark humor...and I mean DARK humor...lol.

WILD AT HEART 2?
It’s been years since I saw the David Lynch film WILD AT HEART. So long that I’ve actually forgotten much of the film other than I thought it was typical Lynch which means strange. So when I heard another director had taken a crack at one of the characters from that movie I wondered why I’d never heard of it before. Using the same character but a different book by the same author, director Alex de la Iglesia has come up with something uniquely all its own, a movie that you have to allow time to open up before judging.Rosie Perez stars as the title character, a violent free spirit who does what she wants at all times. Having just gone to Mexico to scatter the ashes of her dead sister she’s looking for a way back across the border to America. She meets Romeo Dolorosa (Javier Bardem), a self-proclaimed Santeria shaman, con man and thief who has just robbed a bank in order to pay his debt to loan shark Catalina.Romeo is in the midst of his latest criminal endeavor, transporting fetuses across the border to a cosmetic company that plans to use them in their moisturizing cream. But before heading north he performs a Santeria ceremony to a group of well paying customers seeking healing. Once finished Perdita suggest that they kidnap a gringo to kill for his next ceremony. The couple kidnap an American couple that they proceed to torment. But in the midst of this a former partner of Romeo that he swindled arrives with plenty of heavily armed men to seek revenge. Escaping with their lives while taking out most of the attackers, Perdita and Romeo drag along the kidnapped couple and head for the pickup of the truckload of fetuses. Unfortunately the pickup is interrupted by DEA agent Woody Dumas (James Gandolfini), an agent bound and determined to take down Romeo.Perdita and Romeo along with their captives escape arrest and take the truck, heading for the delivery point in Vegas. Along the way Romeo learns that Catalina has raided his grandmother’s house since the payment he was waiting for has yet to arrive. Now a new motivation for revenge has risen.I could go on describing more and more acts of carnage and carnality but it has to be seen to be believed. The movie was everything I expected and more. As I said I wasn’t a fan of WILD AT HEART and when this movie began I wasn’t a fan either. I felt that I wasn’t seeing anything worthwhile at first. And then it began to grow on me. The story unfolds slowly, introducing the characters who are so far off the charts as to not even be on them. And as it progressed I found them both irritating and interesting at the same time. These are not characters you are supposed to love but they will hold your interest.Iglesia does a wonderful job with all things here. The combination of story, characters and quality production make the movie one that isn’t painful to watch as some movies are due to lack of ability on the part of the director. Instead here he coaxes out performances by both leads that are among the best they’ve ever offered. In addition to that he is able to handle the jumps in genres that this film involves from action to sensuality to horror to comedy. All combine with his deft hand to make an interesting film.Severin has done a wonderful job with the release of this film as well. To begin with it’s being offered in a 4k scan of the film and looks magnificent. But they’ve included some interesting extras as well. These include “On the Border” an interview with director Iglesia, “Writing Perdita Durango” an interview with author Barry Gifford, “Dancing with the Devil” an appraisal of the movie by film scholar Dr. Rebekah McKendry, “Narcosatanicos: Perdita Durango and the Matamoros Cult” and interview with Abraham Castillo Flores and “Cauldron of Blood” author Jim Schutze, “Canciones de Amor Maldto: The Music of PERDITA DURANGO” an interview with composer Simon Boswell, “Shooting Perdita Durango” and interview with the director of photography Flavio Labiano and the trailer for the film. That’s plenty for a film that many may never have heard of.The movie is a bit strange and contains plenty of bloodshed but it’s one of the most interesting things I’ve seen in quite some time. If you’ve never heard of it and enjoy something off the beaten path then by all means this is one you should pick up and give a watch.

Wild, Outrageous Flick with One of Javier Bardem's Most Memorable Performances
This is one wild ride, a surreal and manic cinematic experience that rarely takes a moment to breath between outrageous moments. The narrative is mostly coherent, but goes a mile a minute at times and veers off into some unexpected places as well. An example of how Perdita Durango can go for broke would be the voodoo ritual sequence, which is really an experience to behold. There is blood, cocaine, black magic, chanting hordes, and in the middle of it, Javier Bardem going absolutely bananas. Not all of the movie can match that kind of energy, but there is an impulsive vibe at work here and that helps create an atmosphere where anything seems possible, even bonkers, drug soaked rituals. The movie has a lot of violence, most of which is carried out with great enthusiasm, while there is also a good deal of naughty content. Blend in some fantastic, super wild performances, smart writing that pushes boundaries, and a visual style that really commands your attention and Perdita Durango takes shape as the kind of flick you just have to take notice of. The original version clocks in at 130 minutes, but there is no time wasted or slow stretches to speak of, this is still pedal to the floor type cinema. I think Perdita Durango is a unique, masterful movie that more than earns our highest recommendation. Visit my site for a full review!

Finally...
You gotta love a film that begins with Rosie Perez naked. This intact version was previously only available in the US as a region 2 PAL DVD, and, therefore, unwatchable by most people. The censored version, Dance With the Devil, was really gutted; it's wonderful to have the original. The film plays almost like a graphic novel, with a lot of violence and morbidly funny moments. It is enormously entertaining. Many thanks to Severin for rescuing this great little film.

Skip it unless you collect Bardem’s movies.
An excruciatingly endless stream of stimulus and symbolism with over-the-top violence and De la Iglesia's trademark black humor. Not as remarkable as when I first saw it on DVD years ago. Four screenwriters tells all. Great actors in a subpar film. Skip it unless you collect Bardem’s movies.
