Purchased for Southern California summer
I bought these to keep the heat down during a Southern California summer. This year our summer arrived early, by the end of April it was already 101 degrees out here. On top of the heat, I have a west facing window, so I get all the afternoon sun. I've had these up for almost a week now, and they really seem to be doing a temperature difference. The only sure test though is not until mid-July when temperatures don't go below triple-digits for a few weeks! Stay tuned for follow up review.I was hesitant at first to purchase black curtains since I thought they would absorb too much heat, and in fact the curtains really do heat up. The curtains do get hot to the touch, and you can feel the radiant heat off the curtains to about 2 feet away. Since my bed is pushed right in front of my window, this is important because if I'm laying in bed I can still feel the heat radiating behind me. But the black also blocks a lot more light than a lighter colored curtain, which helps in the end with keeping temperatures down. The curtains definitely don't make the room look like it's nighttime, but I'd say about 95% of light is blocked by the curtains and the rest of light entering the room is from above the curtain and from the sides. I tried putting down my blinds first as a first line of defense against the sun, but in reality it didn't make too much of a difference in terms of darkening the room.As for the fabric, it is a nice heavy weight material in 100% polyester, so they will last a while. They are not shiny at all and have the feel of a thick or spongey-like neoprene (think wetsuit), but don't look bad at all or behave like a stiff fabric. I did not measure the drapes to assure they were true to size as others have. I got the 84" long drapes and they don't touch the floor which is what I was going for, they're about 4" above the floor.

These are Not Blackout Curtains
I only gave these 3 stars because they are not REAL blackout curtains, which is what I wanted. Its just a good thick curtain. I'm really disappointed because even with the blinds closed light still comes through. Without the blinds the curtains would be completely useless. I've attached pictures with the blinds open and closed.

Beige color is only room darkening
I ordered the Beige (light tan) color. I would not consider these to be black out curtains as they do let light through. They are thick and probably preform better in any of the other colors. In their defense I will say it'd be very hard for any curtain to black out all the light in such a light color. I would only rate the beige ones at 3 stars at best. But since reviews go towards all colors I've rated them higher.

I love these curtains
I love these curtains. I see people complaining that they don't keep out ALL the light and then post pictures of little pinholes of light peeking through the curtains. Sure, they don't keep out every single ray of light but for my purposes they work just fine. I use them primarily to keep heat either in or out depending on the season. On a sunny southern window they keep the sun out on hot summer days and the area around the windows is noticeably cooler. In the winter I close them up at night and I'm not leaching heat through the windows. For that purpose they've worked great and I'm slowly replacing all my curtains with these. They're easy to clean, easy to install with the large loop eyelet things, and hang on the curtain rod just fine. For as thick as they are they are very easy to open and close. I've had a couple sets for going on three years now and don't see any fading or noticeable wear and tear. The older ones look to be in just as good condition as the brand new ones I purchased a few weeks ago. Great product.

Big difference
I bought these to reduce the evening spring and summer sun beaming through the bedroom window. I dropped the old sheer curtains and installed these blackout curtains and have noticed a big difference. I can keep my room in a really dark state basically all day if I wish. They perform very well for my needs. Now, there is still some light creeping in around the edges, but that has nothing to do with the curtains. With a few modifications to my window frame and rod system I should be able to eliminate the remaining minor traces of light that come through. I believe that if the curtains were completely flush at all points, then it would be pitch black in the room. I have waited many years for this purchase opportunity and I am indeed satisfied with the product so far. The curtains are heavy enough to stay in position and the rings appear to be of good quality as well.CAUTION: Be aware of your surroundings! When using these curtains, your space may become extremely dark extremely too fast for your eyes to adjust. Give your eyes time to adjust before moving around, or at least know where you are in the space. Moving too quickly may cause you to misjudge your steps and you may injure yourself. Be safe!NOTE TO MIGRAINE SUFFERERS: I would definitely suggest these blackout curtains, especially if you become light sensitive during your migraine episodes and your current window treatment isn't up to the task of making your room dark.

Great for Migraine sufferers like me. Just add a redishade blackout behind for complete dark.
I was looking for light blocking curtains for my bedroom. I stopped on these because of the huge grommets that would make putting them on a rod so much easier as well as opening and closing them without having to use a draw string setup. These worked great! My bedroom has a window that faces a busy interstate. These cut the sound for all but the loudest vehicles and semis. The lock bocking is awesome. I did add paper blackout redishades because there is a lot of light that shines up through the top of the curtain. Adding those completed the light block and also cut down even more on the road noise.I did not use a curtain rod designed for these curtains. I had the old style that you are meant to slide the oblong rod through the top of the curtain but this worked well anyway. Someday I will tackle putting up matching curtain rods.I love how easy it is to open these curtains with the large grommets at the top. You can't do that with the traditional pocket curtain, slide on style. These look nice too. The material is soft and absorbs noise on the bedroom side too.

BLACK AS NIGHT
Look. I got this first so I could sleep better. But I have two problems with that, my two kids. SO. I got the blackout curtain for their rooms and MY GOD, my 4 year-old son slept until 9 a.m.9 A.M.! Do you know what kind of a big deal this is!My daughter, who usually get up at 5:50 a.m. got up at 7:30 a.m., and I even saw how she had pulled the curtain back to the side to see when the sunlight was out because it had tricked her so good. What I'm saying is this guys, don't have kids, but if you do, get these curtains so they will learn to love the value of sleep, but more importantly, so you can claim some of your weekend sleep back.

Absolutely perfect blackout curtains with lovely material.
Although I’m a frequent shopper on Amazon, I rarely leave comments unless something is exceptional- either good or bad. These curtains are SUPERB. Beautiful material and truly blackout curtains at a very reasonable price. I’m always worried that reviews are too good to be true but I am genuinely thrilled with these curtains! The photo gives you an idea of the amount of light outside which I let come through the bottom.

Good room darkening curtains in grey option
I bought ivory “room darkening” curtains for my sliding door from another retailer, but they didn’t block light to any significant degree. In a pinch, because I had company coming, I ordered these curtains from amazon and I’m so glad I did! I picked grey because I suspected I’d getter better darkening than with a lighter color, and I’m very glad I did — they darken the room very well.In addition, the look and quality of the curtains are excellent for this price point. I recommend these curtains.

Wow!
I was curious to try these curtains (many claimed qualities at a fairly low price). We bought a set for our son's room, mostly to get a darker room for he's afternoon naps and we only have positive comments to say about these.- The room gets super dark even during the afternoon- When the neighbor's dog bark, we don't hear much of it (sound is reduced a lot)- Cold pass a bit less thru these during the winter.Highly recommended product.

Cheapest option I've found with the quality of competitors twice the price.
Using them for 2 reasons1: to block off a small section of the room for storage2: to keep a drafty window covered. These curtains were cheaper than buying raw fabric for these uses. I am very impressed with the quality and will definitely buy again for my children's rooms before the weather changes again.I will be suggesting these curtains to anyone who needs temperature control or to block out light. Very good purchase.
