The Secret Rhino Society Hardcover – Picture Book, 2 June 2020

This is a charming, funny and original tale of three diverse friends bonding over a shared love of rhinos. It's a subtle story about acceptance and expectation versus reality. I especially appreciate how it captures something so special about the way children play and adapt. When a rhino unexpectedly shows up on the characters' doorstep for the first time, having never met one in the flesh before, they transform the premise of their secret society into something completely different and just go with the flow, creating something even better. It is so in keeping with what I've observed my own children do, but something I had never actually put into words before. Also, the illustrations are simply gorgeous. Unlike any other illustrations I have seen before. A great book.

i bought this to read to my boy/girl 3 year old twins. My daughter loved it and regularly asks for it.My son didn't click with it at all, and I was left feeling cheated. The "illustrations" are great, different and suck you in, but the words didn't conjure up anything and to anyone older than 3 or 4 just seemed to ramble and jump around.I realise its a kids book; but so are so many wonderful engaging books that do a much bette job than this one of entertaining both child and parent alike.

This is a wonderful book with so many important lessons. As you follow the endearing characters throughout the story, you see their individual strengths and value as they contribute their unique abilities in their work together; you see expectations and stereotyping shattered; and in the end, they gain the ability to find what makes them happy. I can see reading this book over and over again with kids and deepening the level of discussion as they grow and mature. This is an important book! And, the paper cut-out illustrations are dynamic and engaging.

A beautifully written and illustrated book. The friend group is adorable in the way they work together to create the club and the business. Wonderful lesson about each characters' strengths and not making assumptions about someone based on their appearance. A great way to segue into current events of today. The illustrations are gorgeous - love the clothes, wallpaper, tiles and the layering of methods and the out of focus backgrounds. I really can't recommend this book enough.

Creativity and acceptance and the yearning to be something better. The beauty in this book is the diversity of characters but the common thread that everyone thinks the grass is always greener on the other side. What the story explores is our preconceived notions and how what we think other’s strengths are, and are often surprised to find we are wrong, but in the best ways. You’ll grow with these characters. The illustrations are heartwarming and masterfully done. Highly recommend for any collection.
