I adore pearls, but I was a little disenchanted with seeing them used the same way over and over again. So I decided find a new vehicle to show off their beauty. Mokume Gane is a traditional Japanese metalsmithing method in which various colors of metals, silver and copper in this case, are layered together and manipulated to create patterns that resemble wood grain. I've accentuated the wood grain pattern of the metal by adding a black patina to the copper. I thought this created a perfect backdrop upon which to showcase the beauty of the 6mm white freshwater pearl tucked inside. The pendant is 7/8" in width, 5/8" in length and is 0n 18" sterling silver and black rhodium chain.
