West Bend Hot Oil Theater Style Popcorn Popper Machine with Nonstick Kettle Includes Measuring Tool and Serving Scoop, 4-Ounce, Red

This is not a great machine, but it's decent. It arrived today and it's all plastic, no light, no heater. The machine pops very well but slow (the single reason it gets 3 stars, otherwise would be one) using coconut oil (I cannot image why anyone would use anything else). The kettle is aluminum, not stainless. The stirrer sits too high and doesn't touch the unpopped kernels, I had to lift the kettle with a skewer - put a skewer under the rim of the kettle. The popcorn scoop is small and round, not useful at all; I have a different one though. The "4 oz kernel scooper" that comes with the machine is a 2.5 oz one. The power cord is short, barely 3 ft. Everything in this machine is corner-cutting technology, nothing is made with safety or durability in mind. The kettle sits low and opens even lower and it's almost impossible to handle the popcorn without touching it, so your backhand will get burned. The cord that powers the kettle is ordinary plastic, not something heat resistant. The cables are very thin, I don't know if are actually sized for the load. The front door overlaps the plastic guard, looking ridiculous, like two different designs slapped together. I don't think it will last long (my previous one worked flawlessly for almost 10 years of Saturday night movies, hockey evenings and rummy parties with friends). If you want a cheap machine to be used from time to time, this is yours. If you want something heavy-duty, sturdy that will handle buckets of popcorn per evening, look somewhere else.I have decided to take the machine apart and manufacture one that is more to my liking. It will feature unpopped kernel removal that actually works and heater, as well as a bigger and sturdier case, with a stainless steel bottom. Basically I will keep the stirrer and the kettle, everything else will be manufactured by yours truly. I will post pictures once is done.

Es una bonita máquina para hacer palomitas, y funciona bien. La cantidad de palomitas que prepara es más o menos lo equivalente a una y media orden de palomitas grandes del cine.Lo bueno:* Las palomitas quedan muy bien y prácticamente revientan todas.* Se ve bonita.Lo malo:* Es de plástico. Los lados y el frente son de plástico transparente. Las bisagras son de plástico. Todo es plástico excepto la ollita, su tapa, donde atora, y el agitador. Se siente frágil y poco resistente. Parece casi de juguete.* No sé cómo funcionen otras máquinas de palomitas, pero al terminar de hacerlas, si se apaga la máquina además de apagar la resistencia de la olla, deja de girar el agitador. Pero como la olla tarda un rato en enfriarse, se queman las palomitas que sigan ahí. Incluso si se ladea la olla, no caen todas y algunas terminan quemándose.

I wasn't sure how to rate this, as I never actually opened the box when it was delivered. I'm sure it worked fine, but was clearly too small to be worth the effort of using it. It was novelty sized not practical for what we wanted it for.
