What happens when an innocent prank goes horribly wrong? Natasha, Riya, Anjali and Katherine were best friends in college - each different from the other yet inseparable - until that night. It was the night that began with a bottle of whisky and a game of Ouija but ended with the death of Sania, their unlikeable hostel mate. The friends vowed never to discuss that fateful night, a pact that had kept their friendship and guilt dormant for the last twenty years. But now, someone has begun to mess with them, threatening to reveal the truth that only Sania knew. Is it a hacker playing on their guilt or has Sania's ghost really returned to avenge her death? As the faceless enemy closes in on them, the friends come together once again to recount what really happened that night. But when the story is retold by each of them, the pieces don't fit. Because none of them is telling the whole truth . . . That Night is a dark, twisted tale of friendship and betrayal that draws you in and confounds you at every turn. Review: An excellent read - That Night by Nidhi Upadhyay is a gripping psychological thriller that delves deep into friendship, secrets, and the haunting consequences of a single, fateful night. The story revolves around four friends—Natasha, Riya, Anjali, and Shalini—who share a close bond until one life-changing event during their college reunion forever alters their lives. Years later, the secrets they buried resurface, pulling them back into a dangerous spiral of guilt, fear, and suspense. What makes That Night stand out is its intricate plot and atmospheric tension. Upadhyay skillfully builds suspense as she unravels the layers of the past while keeping readers guessing. The characters are well-developed, each carrying their own flaws, insecurities, and unresolved conflicts, making them relatable and real. The narrative shifts between timelines, effectively blending the past with the present to create a sense of urgency and intrigue. The book explores themes of betrayal, guilt, and redemption, showcasing how a single event can shape relationships and individual lives. Upadhyay’s writing is sharp and evocative, drawing readers into the emotional and psychological struggles of the characters. With its well-paced twists and shocking revelations, That Night is a compelling and atmospheric read, perfect for fans of suspenseful and thought-provoking thrillers. Review: Good book - An engaging story with a good horror build, but the ending was unsatisfactory... Good attempt

A good read for someone who yearns a horror thriller with good characterisation
Four friends, a dark past, and an omnipresent hacker. They had vouched to sweep the past under the carpet, until one day, twenty years later, the characters to the story are caught off guard with anonymous messages from a hacker that threatens to wreak havoc in their lives for an innocent Ouija prank that went wrong twenty years ago. There's only one way to make sense of it all--to come together once again and recount the truth of that night. REVIEW: Good aspects: A well conceptualised mystery with horror elements that features characters aptly thought out. The four friends are distinct yet a lot like each other in the guilt each shares. The bizarre occurrences with the characters are described in a way that does incite gasps and wide eyes from the reader, but also at times feels repetitive. The twist and turns do land well in steering the direction of the story to make up for the extended narration. The build-up to the climax was probably the best part of the book--it felt raw, eerie, and managed to make the mishap raking the characters' lives feel convincing. The technicalities of the story have been well researched, enough to make it all believable. The language is easy to understand and can make for a good read to even a beginner. Bad aspects: The use of phrases did affect the flow of the narrative, with character dialogues at times being over-stylised which made them feel out of place. The middle of the book suffered the most--the story was stretched, became too formulaic (the pattern of hauntings, the hacker's efforts to scare the characters ultimately leading to their inner dialogues) which impacted the pacing of the book. Still, kudos to the author for creating lingering suspense on the identity of the perpetrator throughout the book. The climax, though not poor, felt a little rushed, with most of the revelations happening in a breath and not allowing much time for the readers to soak in. Though I understand the motive of the perpetrator, I still have several questions unanswered--there are a few loose threads. Lastly, I cannot comment much on the predictability factor of the book (I could guess the person behind it all at some point in the book), nevertheless, it makes for a good ride finding the mastermind. In conclusion, I consider this book a great, refreshing read for someone who yearns for a horror thriller with good characterisation. 3.5/5

Highly recommend for thriller story readers
What a thriller! This book is truly unputdownable. I started reading it before bedtime, knowing that reading usually helps improve sleep—but the gripping storyline had other plans! 😀 I got so absorbed in the plot that I completely lost track of time. The suspense is intense and keeps you hooked from start to finish. Highly recommended for anyone who loves fast-paced, edge-of-the-seat thriller and suspense stories.

A Gripping Thriller That Stays With You
“That Night” by Nidhi Upadhyay is a haunting psychological thriller that grabs you from the first page and keeps you hooked until the end. The story follows four college friends—Natasha, Riya, Anjali, and Katherine—who share a terrifying secret from their past, involving a tragic incident and a vow to never speak of it again. But twenty years later, the past comes back to haunt them in chilling ways. What I loved most is how the book shifts between past and present, slowly unraveling the truth and showing how one night changed everything. The suspense builds up well, and there are twists in almost every chapter that make you question each character’s motives. The emotional layers around friendship, guilt, and betrayal are handled really well. Each character has depth and a story of their own, making the plot feel more real and intense. My only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that at times, the timeline switches could get a little confusing—but that didn’t take away from the thrill and tension. Verdict: A dark, twisty, and emotionally engaging read that explores how one night can shatter lives. If you enjoy stories with secrets, suspense, and drama, this one's for you!

Well written
That night is a well written fiction work by Nidhi Upadhyay. The story revolves around 4 friends and a prank gone wrong. Characters are well researched and narrated while throughout the book characters act within their realms of strength and weakness. This helps to vividly pictures their fears, their journey in their individual and collective guilt and their survival instincts. The most I enjoyed in this book is not just a strong story plot but also how characters like Katherine were played beautifully between sound technical and logical thinking and also an underlying belief and fear of paranormal. “It’s A Great one time read.
