Old-school, great portable lens for the price.
This was bought as a lens for imaging eclipses (functions well) and has only occasionally been used outside of that, but when I have used it for landscapes, it has been good without being exceptional. This is an entirely manual Japanese lens, no electronics, no fancy auto-focus. It is cheap, so I did not expect extreme high quality optics, however, they are surprisingly actually pretty good. It is small, light and feels reasonably robust. I found the build quality extremely good considering the price ($239 plus tax for the Nikon Z mount). For those of us who cut our teeth on this type of lens (using manual focus and manual/auto-exposure), it is perfect for a good, light weight, travel telephoto lens. As it has a fixed depth of field, do not expect the DOF to be fantastic at low light levels. Also, the Bokeh (the slightly out of focus edges) is noticeable at certain light levels. As with all Reflex (mirror or catadioptric) lenses, it can also give you that "artistic" ring-like, doughnut effect in the out of focus areas that you can experiment with (I am not really a fan). However, at the high light levels for landscapes and the type of photography I usually use it for, it has not been a problem. There is also a tendency for the light intensity to fall off at the periphery of the image (vignetting) in lower light conditions, as is a common problem with this type of lens.It works great in good daylight, but you may still need a tripod for longer exposure times. As my camera (Nikon Z6) has in body image stabilization, camera-shake has not been a noticeable problem above 1/60s for me.In short, pros: Light, small, cheap, good quality for the price, cons: Contrast could be more uniform at low light levels (vignetting),

Tokina SZX 400mm F8 MF NIKON
