The book contains twelve short stories, all punctuated by notes about the origin of these works as well as various things mentioned therein. Like every other work from Rollins, these were also gripping and mostly enjoyable. Only the "City of Screams" and "Blood Brothers" seemed stale and odd works. But the others, especially the Sigma Stories and those involving Tucker & Kane were immensely enjoyable.Recommended.

This author again strikes gold with a great bunch of short stories. Some are origin and others are just for entertainment value. Every one is look into the author soul and writing style. If I was reading this author for the first time, I would start with this novel. One of his stories really struck a chord with me, The Pit. It just shocks me how people can be so cruel to animals in this way and find it entertaining. I feel anybody that trains these animals to be fighters, should be thrown in the pit with their animal( with no weapon or defense of themselves), as justice rendered. I look forward to the continuation of the sigma series and the Tucker and Kane books also.

JimLoved your short stories with sigma force and prequel to your blood of sanguine series with Rebecca. Loved your Tucker Wayne and Kane, and hope you write another novel about them. Best story was THE PIT. I was choking up at end when Brutus/Benny recovered from his dark place of “human depression”. It was love that brought Brutus back to save his original family from his vindictive trainer from robbing and killing his family. As a former dog owner, I know first hand that no matter what people do to dogs, they will give unconditional love in the end.That being said, thank you for participating in uso tours in Iraq and Afghanistan in the 2000s, from a retired USAF veteran.

Zum Unterschied von seinem letzten SIGMA-Roman, der etwas lau daherkommt, kann ich in dieser Sammlung von Kurzgeschichten keine einzige Schwachstelle finden. Ein Cliffhanger folgt auf den nächsten und soll wohl-vor allem wenn SIGMA-Mitglieder die Haupthelden sind-Appetit auf den oder jenen Roman machen. Die gelungensten Geschichten handeln jedoch nicht vom SIGMA-Team, sondern haben den treuesten Freund des Menschen zum Haupthelden: den Hund. In "The Pit" und "Sun Dogs" (der einzige neue Beitrag von James Rollins zu dieser Anthologie) wächst der Autor über sich hinaus. "Sun Dogs" bringt übrigens auch einen anderen typischen James Rollins-Helden zurück: den genialen Tucker Wayne.Ganz gleich, ob diese Geschichten als Vorstufen zu den Romanen des Autors gelesen werden, oder separat-allen Freunden actiongeladener Thriller seien sie hiermit empfohlen!

but I ended up loving it. The first few short stories were fairly typical and as I was already familiar with all the characters but, although I have read everything I could find by this author, including ones with Kane and Tucker, I was most impressed by the dog stories. Okay, I admit I'm a dog lover so these really got to me. In tears as I write this, I look forward to the next Rollins book....and hope for more featuring the three heroes Abel, Kane and Tucker.
