Will this work for brick and stone?

Yes they are harndedtools not sure why you would want to center punch a brick or even a stone as it will probably blow out a bigger piece than you want. But it is harder than either

Will these work to punch holes in a steel burn barrel?

A center punch is used for making a dimple in metal you intend to drill a hole in, to give a guide for the drill bit. It’s not intended to punch a hole in anything! You’ll need a center punch, drill bit of the appropriate size, and a hole punch for what you want to do.

Is this the kind of punch you hit with a hammer, or is it spring-loaded?

Mayhew Quality

Very good quality, very impressed with Mayhew USA tools. Been caught out with their Taiwan offerings (cheaper, but not as good IMO). Used on stainless and mild steel, and no problems. Pouch is a little flimsy, but that the tools are top notch
