Great vacuum with just one problem.
This is the best vacuum I've bought to deal with pet fur. It picked up much more fur than I thought was in the room. The vacuum is a little heavier than it looks, but it turns very easily which made going around corners easy. It comes with two tools, a crevice tool and a brush, on the vacuum is a caddy for just one tool that is already attached. In the box is the caddy for two tools, so you have to remove and replace the one tool caddy for the two tool caddy. The vacuum cleaned the carpet like a champ. It picked up more fur from my long haired cat than I could see. You just have to remember that the brush had an on/off switch, so remember to turn it on.The crevice tool worked great in cleaning along side the wall and in tight spaces and the light on it let you see what you were doing. Just one tip, be sure when using the tools you are behind the vacuum or you lose the length of the house. The brush tool works great for cleaning the curtains. If you have a cat you know that the curtains get lots of fur on them. The brush tool took that fur right off. It also did a very good job of cleaning the cat's bed. This vacuum picked up everything, fur to the bits of litter the cat leaves around as well as the dust and dirt a vacuum should clean up.The only real problem is that there is no extender wand. You have to buy it from Bissell. It's not expensive, but it should come with the vacuum. The vacuum should also come with a place to put the extender wand.Because you have to buy the wand direct from Bissell, I give this 4.5 stars. It would easily come in at 5 stars if it had the wand.ETA: I had to update this review and increase this to a 5 star rating. Yesterday the vacuum had its first real test. It was time to change the cat's litter box to a new one. If you have ever done that, you know it can get messy. Once the old litter box was put in a garbage bag, much of the old litter had spilled on the floor. The vacuum on bare floor mode cleaned it all up no problem. The wand was able to clean out the corners, and the floor was cleaner than any broom could do. After the bare floor I changed it back to carpet, and cleaned up the carpet all without having to empty the canister. The canister emptied very easily. And I was done cleaning up.This vacuum is amazing. Strong suction, the tools worked well, and it kept going. After that display, I can overlook the missing extender arm. But one should be included in future models or as an add on here at Amazon. After that I did suggest this vacuum to a friend who has a dog that sheds like crazy, and a long haired cat.

THIS IS AMAZING!!!!
OMG. We have suffered for years of long haired (primarily Golden Retrievers) dogs shedding in our homes. We removed all of the carpet in our Ohio home and went to hard wood just to avoid the impossible task of removing the long fur from the carpets. Premium vacuum cleaners could not do the job. The brush would invariably get smothered in wound up fur that I could only remove by removing the bottom sections, then the brush and then having to cut the fur off as it was always wound up so tightly. We could hardly finish a room without having to do this each time. We tried a carpet rake but that only removed some and the floor utensil for the vacuum was our only other alternative, having to stop every 15 seconds to remove the fur accumulating on the brushes. NOW COMES THE SAVIOR BISSELL 1650A PET HAIR ERASER! We were every bit skeptical after so many years of disappointment. However we were totally blown away by the efficiency of this machine and the amazing lack of fur on the brush. After so many years, true technology came through. The only draw back was the fur spooler would fill up so quickly because of the immense amount of fur in the carpet, even after we had raked it and vacuumed it with the old canister vacuum, a top of the line Panasonic. We remove enough fur/hair to build two more Golden Retrievers!! The suction of the Bissell is well above what we experienced before and again the incredibly easy hair/fur removal a joy to behold. Removing the dust/dirt and fur is a piece of cake. You just have to make sure you hold the canister well into the trash can when you push the button releasing the bottom door and dumpling immediately the fur and dirt. You have to try this to believe it. No light on the front of the machine, something we would have preferred but the narrow tool has one amazingly. The small hand unit was every bit as effective and no fur accumulation on it either. How did they do this??? I don't care, it works like a charm and we are besides ourselves with joy over this purchase. Thanks Bissell for making dog ownership all fun again.

Does a great job on dog hair.
My wife and I are pretty embarrassed. We thought the vacuum we have had for several years was doing a pretty good job but something broke and the old vacuum would no longer stand up by itself. I decided to replace it, it was several years old anyway. We bought this vacuum.at a very competitive price on Amazon. We received it last week and I gave it a test run on the 9 by 12 area rug in the family room. We have a couple of Jack Russell dogs, so we have a moderate dog hair problem. We also have a baby granddaughter that's in the crawling stage. The rug I vacuumed had been vacuumed with our old machine two days before the test run on the new machine. We were shocked. The amount of dog hair this machine got out of that rug was unbelievable. We are embarrassed that our baby granddaughter has been crawling on that rug. We vacuum every time the grand kids come over. We thought our rugs were clean, but far from it. We moved on to the area rug in the dining room. Same deal, way more dog hair than I could have imagined was pulled out of that rug too. So the machine works very well. I am more than a little pleased. I had thought that it was about time to have the rugs professionally cleaned, but it seems that what was really needed was an effective vacuum cleaner.Another nice feature is the ease with which the canister is emptied. One button to remove it from the machine, one button to release the bottom of the canister as you hold it over a waste basket. Very nice and very well designed. And no more stupid paper bags.I kind of wish it had an automatic cord rewind, but I guess that is probably on the next more expensive model. We'll see how it holds up, but we've had good luck with Bissell vacuums before so I am optimistic.
