A Reference Document Gem!
Though this is a work of fiction, a sourcebook for a fantasy game setting among the mythical people of Iceland, much research went into its writing. The myths and the mysteries of Icelandic folklore are well represented here and delivered in tastes, which return astonishing truths after a little research. This conciseness is what makes this reference document a gem in my library for my own writing.Did you know that Knights Templars likely visited Iceland in 1217? How about the evidence to support the speculation of a Roman incursion? How about the visit by Greek sailors, described by Pliny the Elder in Natural History, AD 77? This is not an in-depth work of Icelandic history but enough history is given within the pages of this book to initiate the uninitiated; along with plenty of adventure seeds for a historical game. The only draw back is the editing. For those of you familiar with role-playing game books, this will be nit picking. There are some truly horrid proofreaders working in the RPG industry. As far as that comparison goes, this book is trouble free. However, there were a few glaring grammatical mistakes but not enough to diminish the work. I also wish the book's publisher would have given this work a hardcover binding. The price certainly compares to hardcover books offered by other RPGs publishers. The content of this one merits such treatment. This work won the Silver Award for its class at the 2013 ENnie Awards. It is well worth picking up, especially because the book is largely system neutral. I am unfamiliar with the BRP system but I did grok the idea behind the mechanics described because the text was well served by a writer's flowing hand. This is a definite buy recommendation.

Excellent information, but beware the "advance proof copy!"
The supplement is absolutely packed with great setting content for BRP or really any other role playing system. Just a great book! However, the copy that I received through Amazon was an advance proof copy. This means it was meant for review before the actual release of the book. It has placeholder cover art, no fold-out map, and the page references in the text just say "see page xx."I returned that copy to Amazon with an explanation and request for the finished book, but was sent another copy of the proof edition as a replacement. I kept that one, because I really do love the book's content. I only wish I had the complete edition!

Bait and Switch
When I ordered this book, the image used was for the actual publication. What was delivered was a pre-publication proof edition. Now the image shown is for that proof edition. Seems pretty shady to me.

An excellent RPG source book for Dark Age Iceland...
This softcover setting book from the publishers of Call Of Cthulhu presents the fantastical world of mythic Iceland for BRP d100 play. It’s an ideal accompanying volume to Chaosium’s excellent Cthulhu Dark Ages, full of historical detail and mythic inspiration.A gem of a book if you’re interested in playing a Viking-themed RPG, especially one with overtones of Lovecraftian weird horror.

Great supplement but this edition had minor issues.
Like - great set of information.Bad - didn't realise this was a 'gencon 2011 pre-publication proof edition'. Most of it seems good, but I have seen several page references that are incomplete. Such as "see page XX".Whoops - revised my bad spelling 15/10/2020.

Bello ma manca di qualcosa
Bel volume ma e' quello che fu venduto/distribuito alla gencon nel 2011 se non mi sbaglio. Non ha la mappa pieghevole e pure la copertina e' diversa da quella che dovrebbe essere. Cmq buon supplemento. Inglese
