As sharp as my 55mm 1.8
the images included were just around my home or in the store parking lot (So not awesome pictures). But just wanted to give you an idea of how sharp it is. It's just as sharp as the 55mm 1.8 that was used at one time. I actually like this lens better, even those it's slower. It has additional controls on the lens for various purposes. I like how it focuses better and it's smaller and newer. It can still do a good portrait at f/2.5, but I also have a 85mm 1.8 and a 135mm lens for that. But if the 50mm would be your only lens for portraits, then you might want to look elsewhere. Though small, you can tell it's extremely high quality. I think the price would be better suited at 400-450 dollars, but to me, it's still worth it at its current price. I had had this lens on loan about a month ago and tested it then and really liked it so finally pulled the trigger. I didn't get the 24mm or 40mm because I already had a 20mm and 35mm lens from other than Sony. So this gives me a 20mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and 135mm lens setup. I'm sort of a primes guy. I do have one zoom lens, but I just enjoy primes more, but everyone is different, with different uses for their gear. I'm not a wedding photographer, but as a hobby have done a few weddings and also do some events. When doing weddings, I usually take with me a 20mm, 35mm, 85mm and 135mm. The 50mm will be more my travel lens.

I bought this a few weeks ago and have used it a good handfull of times....
Its autofocus is really FAST and super smooth. I love its design, the Clairity of the lens is perfect , just like Im actually there (on what im focused/zoomed in on). The weight.... its almost like the lens isnt even on my camera !, the Size of the lens is also perfect just like Im using a sub compact lens ! Manual focus is really easy to do and really simple and fast so you wont miss that perfect shot ! The look and feel of this lens is total luxury. After all I do EXPECT the BEST from SONY and that is what I got !

Amazing tiny lens
I am a wedding photographer. I added this lens to my arsenal of lenses and it is soon becoming one of my favorite pieces of kit. The images render beautifully, fast and quiet autofocus, and it has no problem finding eyes in low light. Yes it is over-priced! But I am willing to pay a little extra for the compact size and great image quality. 2.5 aperture is more than good enough for me. I have other lenses if I absolutely need to blow-out the background but I find that I rarely need to. I love the lens. If you have the money, you will not regret the purchase.

A Nifty Fifty G Lens with Character
Iโve shot Sony a7 Series since first introduced and have, and have tested, multiple lenses. While looking for a compact 50mm, I watched stellar reviews on this one. Despite its f2.5 aperture, the reviews said it provided excellent bokeh and was sharp wide open with a relatively short minimum focusing distance. Well, after shooting a thousand frames on a photo shoot of people, I can say โItโโs all that and more!โ This lens has โcharacterโ that give images a special look. The lens hood is ugly. I recommend the Fotasy 49mm metal screw mount lens hood for about $10.

Perfect all around lens for a6700 and a7iii
Great little lens. The autofocus is snappy when I put the lens on my a6700.

Tiny lens but great images
Tiny and light 50mm lens when mounted to my Sony A7IV, like a small APS-C or micro 4/3 camera. Great for street photography. Wish it could open up to F1.8 or F1.4. Also very expensive so it's not a great value. But a keeper for me.

Great lens
I got this lens for my Sony a7cii before a trip to Moab. Great lens! Iโm no pro but I got some really beautiful shots and am glad to add this lens to my bag.

it is perfect for gimbal use. I have the 24mm as well and no need to re balance changing lens. Both extremely sharp and 2,5 is ok with. No need more blurry background : )

Recognizing that there are always good and bad copies of a lens, this one was sadly disappointing for the money. The good: -FAST autofocus, that is silent, accurate and responsive. I mean it is so fast you might wonder if it really focused. The double motors, coupled with small elements makes this a great lens for tracking and fast work -Small - super compact - Sharp - noticeably sharp wide open and around f5.6 and f8. - Manual controls on the lens barrel - declickable aperture, AF/MF, manual aperture ring (<-so useful, especially for video) The bad: - Virtually no depth to the front element, which means the front element is exposed when not using the lens hood. This necessitates filters, but then the filter is also exposed, because the bizarre lens hood barely fits over the lens cap and prevents the operation of any rotating filters (ie. CPL or ND) - Bizarre lens hood - you can't operate the lens cap with the hood on, so everytime you make a lens change, if you want to use the hood, you will have to plan to leave caps off, or remove the hood as well as make the lens change. For my purposes, this is disruptive to my flow - Sharpness and contrast are on par with other budget options, without providing any benefits when using smaller f-stops, and without offering larger f-stops like the 1.8 or 1.4 lenses. In fact, the Rokinon 45mm 1.8 I tested had better results at all f-stops. - f16, shows a significant amount of diffraction, but could be the combination with the A7Riii - Price - at this price, I expected optical performance to be higher than lenses half the price. Conclusion: I expected more than the lens delivered. This lens is a good video lens, lightweight and with access to manual controls for iris racking. It is geared for focus pulling, but the compromises in practical use with the bizarre lens hood make it less desirable for still work, where less expensive lenses offer comparable or better quality of images without the headaches of the lens hood and vulnerable optics.
