The Bombshell Effect: A single dad sports romance (Washington Wolves Book 1)

Allie and Luke (and Faith)
Allie's Dad just died, and she inherited the Washington Wolves football team that she knows nothing about. Allie grew up in boarding school after her Mom passed, so she wasn't close to her Dad. Luke is the veteran QB for the Wolves and was close with the owner, so he was surprised to find out that he left his team to his never present daughter. They met before when she moved in next door and tried to take him and his daughter cupcakes, and he implied she was trying to sleep with him, so she slammed the cupcakes I to his chest. His daughter constantly finds ways to hang out with Allie, and he realizes that he is attracted to her. They decide to sleep together on game nights once a week to keep things uncomplicated and private. When a picture is taken of them, they decide to stop, and Allie moves into her Dad's other home with her friend Paige. Thanks to a teammate, Luke realizes he's in love with Allie, so he does an interview that is shown before the game on the jumbotron and admits he loves her. They end up engaged, living together, and pregnant while heading into a superbowl game 15 months later. Spice level was a 2, but it was still a good read.

liked it
I liked this book on a whole, but it wasn’t as good as Karla’s more recent releases or the Ward sisters.I enjoyed all of the characters and the tension between Luke and Allie was believable. The past experiences and relationships that impacted their current lives were emotional.Where I felt the book was lacking was in the rush to the “I love you”s. These were 2 people that hadn’t sat down and had get to know you conversations. All they had were their Sunday rendezvous so it was pretty unbelievable that they would be doing grand gestures of love after only a few weeks of once/week meetups.I think the shorter length of this book was what drove the fast love, it wasn’t Insta-love necessarily it was just fast. I also would have liked to see more of their relationships with the side characters as there was a LOT of inner monologues.

Quarterback falls for the team's new owner
I'd rate this 4.5 stars but enjoyed it enough to round it up to 5. Allie barely has a relationship with her father so when he suddenly passes, she's surprised to find herself inheriting the Washington Wolves, his beloved football team. She moves back into her deceased mother's house on Lake Washington and decides to take cupcakes next door after seeing a young girl waving to her from the neighbour's house. Luke answers his door to find Allie on his doorstep and after wrongly assuming she's a football groupie who's trying to hit him up, he's a jerk to her. When he finds out that she's his new boss, he's less than impressed and she thinks he's an arrogant, uncompromising, but painfully attractive jock. For the sake of the team, they try to start again and build a tenuous relationship while working and living beside each other as they try to take the Wolves to the championship. This was a pretty short, easy read. The dialogue was good, with some witty banter between the two main characters, and the writing was solid for the most part. The plot wasn't groundbreaking and if you've read any hate to love romances before, nothing here will surprise you as it follows a pretty predictable pattern. That being said, you know what you're going to get and there weren't too many surprises.Luke was a single dad and I really liked what that offered the story line and his character. I find that sometimes authors tend to make children characters obnoxious or really cliche. I'm glad to say that Luke's daughter was neither and she added to the plot rather than detracted from it. Luke himself was also a breath of fresh air. Instead of being the typical football player we see in sports books (you know the one I'm talking about - cocky, a player, etc.), Luke was grumpy, gruff and stayed away from relationships because of his daughter and from being burnt from his ex. We don't know too much about what happened with his daughter's mother, only that she sold a story about their fling to the tabloids and died early on. He doesn't hold many positive memories of her. Luke hates the press and is completely committed to his job, taking his leadership role and position of quarterback seriously. Allie was also a refreshing character. While very attractive (we're told a few times she looks like Barbie), she's quite anxious and unsure of herself. She wants to prove that she can take over from her father, but she's completely out of her comfort zone. She's able to lean on others for help and is determined to do the best she can - no vapid flake here, thank goodness. There's a bit of an age gap between the two - I think it was about 10 years or so.The romance is a bit of a slow burn. There's tension and each character's inner monologue identifying the attraction they have to the other, but things don't heat up well into the second half of the book. There was a really decent amount of football dispersed throughout the book, which I loved. I know it sounds silly to mention this, but sometimes sports books use the sport as an add on and not a major part of the story. This book had a good amount of detail, both from Luke's expert point of view and Allie's novice one as the story focussed on him as a player and her as the new owner. There were a few small typos here in there throughout the book. Not a big deal, but they were there. While Allie and Luke were slow at finally getting together, they did fall in love quickly for those readers that like to know those kind of details. I would have liked a little more of Allie getting to know and spending time with Luke's daughter, as I thought it was a bit of a missed opportunity in the plot, but that's just a personal preference and didn't affect me enjoying this book. Also, I loved that there was a sports romance with no other woman drama. Thank you to the author for this!Overall, this was a predictable, but really enjoyable read for me. I'm keen to continue the series and will be reading this author's work again.

Strong Woman in Charge 💙🏈🏟️♥️
I loved Allie from the moment she us introduced. She is spunky and sexy and very emotionally present. She is perfect for Luke, the single father who is leery of women and relationships. She is a strong woman, owning a football team can’t be easy. But the fact that she’s beautiful and sexy doesn’t make her weak or a pushover. I admire that. I was glad to see Luke recognize what a prize she is fue him and his daughter.I enjoyed the way she worked through her grief and the loss of her father. There were some tears and some laughter involved in this book.Great side characters and fun sports romance.

Throwing for love!
When Alexandra Sutton inherits a football team she moves home to take over as the owner. Seeing her neighbour has a little girl, she makes cupcakes and goes over to say hello. Luke Pierson is a quarterback and shys away from media, keeping his daughter protected. As Allie doesn't follow football she has no idea who Luke is. A misunderstanding follows and when they meet at work, it's a shock to both of them. There's chemistry between them that only seems to grow the more time they're in each other's orbit. Will the positions they hold manage to tear apart the relationship that's building? Can they admit just how important the other is to them? The chemistry in this book was hot and the journey they took to a HEA was filled with pitfalls and insecurities. I love that Karla didn't make them perfect and that they were just as human as we are! Can't wait for the next book in the series!

Great spicy sports romance
My first read by this author and the first in the Washington Wolves series.I enjoyed the attraction between Allie and Luke and I did feel at times there was not a lot of depth to the characters or a lot of their backstories but I love a single dad trope so I was not going let anything stop me reading this one.I thought the slow burn of this was hooked me into the story and kept me reading and I liked that both characters had lots of money but they didn't flash the cash or spend it like water.I think younger readers would enjoy this one and the fade to black scenes were in keeping with the book as a whole. An enjoyable read and I am onto the second book already.

Great read!!
This is the first book I’ve read from this author and I truly enjoyed every minute. It had angst and romance. It also tugged on my heart strings. One thing I enjoyed is the character development. This author really knows how to describe her characters so that we can fully understand them.
