These mushroom bags work great but they will burst in the PC if proper precautions are not taken. First, they cannot come into contact with the bottom or sides of your pressure cooker (PC). The PC will get very hot and it will melt the plastic. I place metal canning rings under the canning rack and then drape cloth over the rim of the PC arranged so that the interior is completely lined with cloth. Then I load the bags and then fold the cloth over top of the bags to clear the rim of the PC once loaded. Second, you cannot have any air in your bags or they will pop. The air expands under pressure — a lot! — and the filter patch does not provide enough ventilation to allow excess air to escape. The bags will then pop, and you will probably hear it. There are a couple of ways to prevent this. One is to not seal the bags until after they are PCed. This does complicate sealing the bags because the PC will wrinkle and distort the plastic. It is also not foolproof because if the bags are rolled tightly closed as per common practice then they could burst anyway. The safest way to prevent air from bursting your bags is to just not have any. Push all the excess air out of the bag so they look like they are vacuum sealed (which btw is impossible with these bags because of the filter patch). . Once all the air is out of the bag you can seal them and PC or else PC first as per your preference. I personally like to seal the bags before pressure cooking because they seal better, and I can verify that the excess air is fully removed before they go into the PC. If the air is not removed then you will observe a noticeable pillow of air inside when you try to roll them up. I seal my bags as close to the top as possible so that if necessary I can open the seal, remove the excess air, and still have enough head room to reseal the bag. If you follow these precautions then you can avoid bursting your bags on the regular.

This is my second order of these bags in year 2024 and the only complaint I might have is a few of them have not been pressed correctly at the bottom making it a little more challenging to get the sides lined up after filling with grain or substrate. I started my shrooming journey in 2023. Over time I perfected my liquid culture, grain spawn and substrate process. Over that time, I used up and threw away a lot of these bags, not because they were bad, but my process was not good. My process now is to bail my oat grain for 30 minutes, let it cool and dry enough to pass the tissue test. Then I bag up about 2 cups of that grain into each bag, line up the sides, roll the top down tightly until I get to the air patch, rubber band my little bundle and stick it in the Insta-pot. I let my bags run through the insta pot process on high for 1.5 hours, let the pressure fall and then carefully bring the bags out, pop off the rubber bands, unroll my bag of grain, put a heavy duty clip at the top where I folded up before the PC process and periodically shake my bags until all the moisture has absorbed back into the grain. I use two processes to make my bags of spawn. I use LC or grain to grain. If I use the LC, after I shoot the bag with 4-5 cc (my preference), I slap a piece of micro tape over the hole the needle made and then hang the bag by the large office clip at the top. If it's just grain to grain, I carefully unroll the top, toss so already inoculated grain spawn in, roll the top back down to the filter, put my clip on and hang the bag on a hook until it's ready. I then use that same bag for adding my substrate since I use a combo of pellets 1.12#, cotton seed husks 8 oz and 1/3 c wheat bran with just a little less than 1TBSP of lime for pasteurizing. From start to finish, this process of having a block ready to fruit takes about a month, 2 weeks for the spawn and then about 2 weeks for it to run through my substrate mix. Through all this process as described, I've never had a bag fail me. They don't melt in the Insta pot, they don't burst, they don't crinkle so horribly that they look like a mangled mess of plastic, and as I said at the beginning, this is my second time to order this brand. Unless they change materials or their process, these will continue to be my go to bags and I highly recommend them, especially for the cost per bag.

I use these to sterilize my grain and hardwood substrate and they are holding up incredibly. The plastic doesn't melt in the cooker, the patch holds up after getting wet, and it doesn't tear from mixing and handling. It does lose its shape after sterilizing but I shape the bag after it cools to compensate. I would definitely recommend this bag to other growers.

Very happy with this purchase, I absolutely love the quality, true to description mils. I have run into 3 bags so far out of 18 so far which melted with the vacuum sealer, other than that great product adding to my cart again before they're gone.

These bags are constructed well and perform exceptionally well in an autoclave.

These bags have issues throughout. They are defective and leak like a screen door screen. If you are looking to be able to keep out contamination shop elsewhere. Positives are they are the size they state. Maybe use them for medium not for spawn

worked as intended, did not melt or burn inside the pressure cooker for 3.5 hours. I highly recommend if you;re growing mushrooms, sterilizing anything. Plus there were 66 bags in the package! Which is a bonus. highly recommend to mycologists enthusiasts, it's a solid bag. Comes with the white filter only. If you need to inject anything in it you need to puncture the bag and then tape it. Or you can buy the self healing sticker. Highly recommend it!

Used these bags for substrate sterilization in a pressure cooker and overall they performed well. No issues with bursting during the process—as long as you let the pressure cooker cool down properly before opening. If opened too soon, they can burst, so cooling time is important. The bags are clear and good quality, and they held up fine after sterilization. No noticeable deformation or issues once cooled. Sealing was a bit tricky, but that may be more related to the sealer than the bags themselves. After continuous use, the sealer got hotter and started slightly melting the plastic, so we had to let it cool down between seals. These are 3 mil bags with an 80 micron filter, and they seem to do the job well for general use. They do not come with inoculation ports. Included a photo showing early colonization using these bags. For the price ($39.99 CAD for 60), they offer good value overall.

Perfect for bulk substrate to bulk spawn to. Bags held well pre-sealed and pressure cooked, A few bags in and already impressed. Have fun folks! (please be safe if you do pressure cook pre-sealed-know what you're doing). Some bags had markings on them but few bags in perfect and I won't foul these guys for it, I'm buying more when I need them.
