Deathstroke Vol. 2: Lobo Hunt (The New 52)

I love Deathstroke as a character, but not when he's being handled by such inept writers. First of all, there is no sense of cohesion to this volume. It is mostly a series of unconnected story arcs such as Deathstroke fighting an immortal, taking on a ninja clan, confronting Hawkman, and a rehash of all his old family drama with Jericho, Ravager, his wife, Grant, and even the Teen Titan Terra in the end (the final issues are the worst as they blow through major story reveals in a snap). Oddly enough the most well paced arc to this volume is the titular hunt for space bounty hunter Lobo. Written by Rob Liefeld the story comes with all his shortcomings: odd body dimensions, bad background art (when there is any at all), over the top dialogue, and female characters who are just ridiculous in terms of their sexuality being shot through the roof. Still, it actually carries a basic plot structure and it is fun to see Slade face off against the classic Lobo before he was unceremoniously replaced with the terrible New 52 redesign. Lobo was never the best DC character, but as 90's as he is he's much better than "thin, emo Lobo."

This is one great GN, it has everything you would want, sick plo,t sick story, sick fights, and awesome artwork. A must for any Deathstoroke fan. A whole lot of action and great fights the whole way threw. Buy the book, you will be very happy with it. Helps if you like Deathstoroke and Lobo, but it's not just them a whole lot of other DC superhero's and Meta-Humens, is that spelled right? Anyway buy this book, you will not be sorry, if you don't buy it, I'm telling you you are really missing out on so great violence with a story.

I'm shocked that the other reviewers enjoyed this book so much. Liefeld totally butchered Lobo(seriously, who uses Lobo as a serious villain?!?). The plot of the Lobo hunt arc is pretty craptastic and nonsensical as well. And let's not forget about that wonderful Liefeld artwork(how hard is it to draw a gun!?). To be fair, I haven't read the second half of the book yet. I just can't bring myself to do it. The artwork looks much, MUCH better though. If you were expecting anything remotely as good as the first volume your going to be very disappointed. I'd say avoid this unless you absolutely love Deathstroke.

Great rehash for the New 52, Deathstroke fans won't be disappointed. Looking forward to the next volume, if I don't pick up the issues first.

I love Deathstroke, but the arrangement of his appearances in this volume are very disjointed. This isn't a negative commentary on the stories themselves; however, their arrangement does not give any context as the volume progresses.

What a GREAT Series!

I like comic books because they are epic awsome bloody and some times funny so if u like epic comic books deathstroke is the one to buy it's so worth it so try it out you will like it

Thought it was good. Only thing i didn't like is some changes to his origin. Other than that it was good. Im a huge Deathstroke fan so was definitely worth the read.

It’s been nearly 18 months since the first Deathstroke volume came out and I was wondering why it’d taken DC so long to release the second. As soon as you pick it up, you realize why: DC have crammed in issues #9-20 plus the #0 issue into this second and final Deathstroke volume. They waited until the series had ended before bundling them all up into one massive book because they don’t want to string this out into another volume, they just wanted it over and done with – and I can see why!The main “story” arc is Deathstroke fighting Lobo, a space biker with the standard range of unimaginative superpowers: strength, speed, healing factor, etc. He fights him here, he fights him there, he fights him everywhere - the end! Next up is: Some Guy! Once Deathstroke defeats Lobo, they run out of name characters for him to fight so it becomes arbitrary villain of the week from there on out. The villains, or targets really, aren’t so much characters as superpowers with a face: there’s a guy who can’t be killed in some Eastern European country, there’s a Japanese mafia dude with cybernetic implants which makes him ultra-tough, and so on.The problem with this series is that it has no direction. Initially Rob Liefeld set up a father/son storyline that was explored somewhat in the first volume and in the second is ignored until the final two issues where it’s rushed to an unsatisfying and overblown conclusion. In the interim you just have Deathstroke fighting random dudes with the occasional half-hearted attempt at a storyline. There’s something about the Nth Metal armour Deathstroke wears, meaning of course a cameo from Mr Nth Metal himself, Hawkman (and if you know anything about New 52 Hawkman it’s that he’s the kiss of death for a series once he appears!) but that “story” fizzles out in no time and is promptly forgotten.It doesn’t help that the title had a revolving door of writers and artists. After Liefeld completed his Lobo arc, he left DC quite bitterly (google Liefeld leaving DC for some interesting tweets from the Rob – he even went after DC golden child Scott Snyder! No one was safe!), then another writer stepped in and left, then Justin Jordan, writer of Luther Strode, stayed on for the remaining issues. I’d say Jordan’s writing is maybe the best this book has but it’s still of a remarkably poor standard and nothing like his work at Image. Plus Jordan ties his issues into his godawful Team 7 series so the book ends with a final calamitous crash straight into a brick wall.I’d say you get value for money with this volume purely for the ton of comics included but it’s really a clear case of quantity over quality. Sure there’s a lot of pages but it’s basically the same boring nonsense repeated over and over until it’s done. It was nice to see some Liefeld art again purely for nostalgic and comedic value – the guy’s crazy but he’s the Rob, and kudos to him for not putting up with DC’s idiocy – but this whole book was a flatline for me. I couldn’t wait until it was over.New 52 Deathstroke proves that while he’s a good supporting character and a decent villain for the likes of Batman, he’s far too limited and not interesting enough to sustain his own series.

Deathstroke, dc's deadliest mercenary, is back after his spectacular first volume; the only problem is he's facing poor writing and loose stories.Now my previous statement may be fairly harsh, I'm not saying the stories are terrible just that they don't create foreshadowing or tension before hand so they end up being adequate but not fantastic. Now since this is followed by the awesome Deathstroke volume 1 it was a disappointment and therefore is only awarded 3 stars. Shame on you dc, shame on you; you made Deathstroke look like a second rate anti-hero when he's the king of anti-heroes.Spoiler(not really but just precaution):(Through I would like to note it was awesome how he killed those two people at the end (not saying who.) But It kinda destroyed some of the future possibilities of Deathstroke.)

habe mir diesen band blind gekauft (fehler nummero1) als ich "lobo hunt" gelesen habe. wer auch immer der jenige war der da seinen knüppel in die tusche getaucht hat um Lobo zu zeichnen, gehört erschossen. das was da auf ein paar seiten von weltzerstörung fantasiert hat, war nicht der echte präsi, sondern ein ganz ganz ganz billiger abklatsch. von einem "künstler" geschaffen der weder in der lage ist details zu zeichnen, noch füße bzw schuhe und alles in vollkommen bescheuerte kinderkostümstiefel enden lässt mal abgesehen, hat der präsi weder seine mähne noch seine ansonsten absolut furchteinflößende "wölfische" gestalt wirkt eher wie ein vorzeigebösewicht der nur mal so mit slade ein bisschen spielen will. und wo zur hölle kommt eine angeblische czarnianische prinzessin her? wo 'bo doch sein ganzes volk gekillt hat? schrott! ok, die deathstroke geschichten hingegen waren einigermaßen ok, wenn auch seeeehr stark überzeichnet und nahezu ohne details zur welt und umgebung. sowas wie dass könnte auch ein schimpanse erstellen der mit nem pc und einem grafikprogramm in einem raum eingesperrt wird.schade, hätte man mit ein wenig recherchieren und etwas mühe weit mehr draus machen können. für freunde des trash genre garantiert ein muss, alle anderen, finger weg!

Kennt ihr die Bezeichnung: Hirn aus, Story vergessen? Anders funktioniert das hier hier auch nicht, denn die Story ist einfach furchtbar. Sofern es das, was sich hier abspielt, überhaupt als solche bezeichnen kann. Denn soetwas wie ein roter Faden existiert eigentlich gar nicht, statt dessen hat man eher eine Handgranate in einen Wollknäuel gesteckt und das ganze Konstrukt des Storytellings in die Luft gejagt.Sieht man mal davon ab, dass es schon innerhalb der Main Story absurd lachhaft ist, wie Storyarcs einfach im Nichts enden um dann nie wieder erwähnt zu werden, während sich unser [Anti-]Held einfach zum nächsten Arc aufmacht, wird es besonders schlimm bei den Sonderheften, die in diese Sammlung eingebunden wurden. Irgendwo mitten im Band ist ein Storyeinschub mit Hawkman, der im Cliffhanger endet. Einen Cliffhanger mitten im Kampf gegen eine feindliche Übermacht und ziemlich.. mies für Hawky und Deathy aussieht. Und auf der folgenden Seite.. sitzt Deathstroke dann im Restaurant und verhandelt mit Politikern über seine nächste Mission. Als wäre nichts gewesen. Wird auch nie wieder erwähnt. Genau so wenig wie "Deathborn", der sich in einem anderen Kapitel irgendwann mal grinsend mit einem Arm weniger aus einem Kampf verabschiedete mit den Worten beim nächsten Mal ernst zu machen. Wart nie mehr gesehen. Genau wie die Lobo-Schnalle direkt zu Beginn, die als Über-Bedrohung angeteased wurde und nie wieder auftauchte in diesem Werk.Aber nein, das reicht noch nicht. Natürlich muss man dem Helden auch noch ein Privatleben in den Charakter schreiben und Liebesgeschichten. Ohne geht es nicht. Da bekämpft er z.B. zusammen mit einer Random-Kriegerin Lobo nur um daraufhin ohne Aufbau quasi unsterblich verliebt mit ihr durchzubrennen. Romanze out of nowhere. Die sieht man anschließend noch einmal mit ihm im Bett liegen und wird dann ebenfalls nie mehr erwähnt. Aber die Autoren des Bandes wären nicht sie selbst, wenn das schon alles wäre. Nee. Deathstroke hat schließlich auch noch Familie. Seine Frau ist tot und wird am Anfang des Bandes von ihm am Grabe betrauert. Später erfahren wir dann wer sie war und wie sie angeblich starb. Aber Überraschung, NATÜRLICH ist sie gar nicht tot, wie der Leser erfährt. Sie hat überlebt. SCHOCKER! Gen Ende taucht sie dann auch wirklich auf, Deathstroke sieht sie und.. NICHTS. Kein Hallo, keine Umarmung, er ist auch nicht überrascht. Er merkt lediglich an, dass sie nicht hier sein sollte. Das ist alles. DAS. IST. ALLES. Am Ende geht sie dann wirklich drauf und Deathstroke trauert mal wieder um sie. Boah. Ehrlich. Wer schreibt so einen Scheiß?Fazit: Ein paar der Kämpfe sind ganz nett, das war es aber auch schon. Der Typ, der für den Zusammenbau des Werkes verantwortlich ist, hat halt mal wahllos alles aneinandergereiht wie es gerade da war, ohne es zu lesen. Das da oben war auch nur die Spitze des Eisberges. Es gibt noch viel mehr absurde Dinge, die ich gar nicht erwähnt habe - im Grunde zieht es sich komplett so durch. Vergesst also die komplette Story, schaut euch die Bildchen ohne zu lesen an und vielleicht hat auf die Art jemand Spaß. Das Geld ist das Band aber nicht wert.
