Can't Read Chinese
The reception of this unit is very poor. One must hold the antennae constantly to receive sound. Everything is in Chinese including the instruction booklet and the buttons/switches!!! It was cheap, but I expected more!!! Very disappointed!!!

This was a JOKE! It was not what I expected!
It was all in Chinese and I have NO IDEA how it works! And it is TINY! It's the size of a pack of cigarettes! It looks bigger on the ad. But it's puny. It was a lousy choice!I'd like one in English or something to fix this. I almost became an Amazon seller and I am leery of it now.G J Malvar - GreenStar Alliance

Sturdy and Functional. Good FM reception, Not as much on AM
This is a very nice, sturdy, functional radio -- once you understand the Chinese characters. FM reception is very good. It pulls in the stations, and you get nice, clear sound. Whether it is news, discussion, or music, the FM broadcasts are very good. On a small set, the speakers are, of course, small, but the sound is clear and clean. With a headset, it actually sounds quite good.AM is a different story; I suppose that is why it is so hard to find a portable AM radio these days. There is major interference from electric power lines in my area, so AM reception is a problem, even on larger sets with digital tuning and good antennas. So I guess I should have known not to expect much. Well, that is what I got. The powerful stations come in very clear. But the stations I want to listen to, not so much. Reception in the park behind the house (under the power lines) is OK. Inside the house, not worth the bother. I could not get any shortwave stations. Since I do not have any other shortwave radio to compare with, I do not know if I would have the same problem with another set. I do know that away from the power lines I have been with people receiving shortwave broadcasts.Unfortunately, while the station display is digital, the actual tuning is analog with a cheap dial. It is difficult to get the exact station that I intend to select. I can find a setting on which the station broadcast can be heard, but it is not always the actual station frequency.A nice feature is the mini SD card slot. The buttons on the front are for selecting the track from the SD card. Unfortunately they do not allow selection of the station frequency. There are buttons for fast forward, reverse, pause and play, and continuous play for operating from the SD card. There is an auxiliary USB output and a miniplug output for headphones. Selection of the band you want to listen to is by a small rocker switch. One end of the radio has an LED light, and there is a lightbulb pictured on one of the buttons, but either this feature not working, or there is no connection between the two, as I cannot find a way to get the light to turn on.The on/off switch, station selector, and volume control are labeled in Chinese. But they work sensibly, so it is not a problem, just inconvenient. The unit came with a 1 inch by five inch list of "instructions" which, unfortunately, do not really say anything of value. Well, except to save the trouble of trying to make the button labeled "M" work. The instructions make clear that this button is "just for show.I have not yet run down the battery (which arrived charged). It is not a standard US size. But it is a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. The unit comes with a USB cable, standard size on one end, and mini size on the other. The mini USB input is labeled "DC5V." So I assume this is the charging port. You will need to provide your own charger, at least you get the cable. If you can read Chinese, perhaps the small instruction pamphlet included with give details about this. Since I do not read Chinese, I cannot say for certain. This is a nice enough radio. It comes with a handy carrying strap that is not shown in the Amazon photo. If you can use the miniSD card player, it is probably a very good option. In many areas (where AM reception is decent) it seems like it would work quite well. Otherwise, if you only care about FM, there are probably other less expensive options that are just as good and do not require you to know Chinese. I am happy enough with the unit as it is readily portable so I can take it to places where there is not the AM interference I have at my home.I received this radio at a substantial discount in consideration of a fair and honest review.

Nice But Not Very Powerful.
My first impression when I received this radio was I could not believe how small it was. Certainly smaller than I expected. This is not a positive or a negative, just an observation. When I first decided to get this radio, I started to get really nostalgic. I remembered the days when I was a kid playing with a shortwave radio. It was cool discovering stations all over the world. When I received it however, I was a bit disappointed. Unfortunately, when I first tried the radio, I was not able to pick up even one station on the SW band. I was only able to pick up one station on the AM band. I was quite disappointed. The FM band, however comes in perfect. As an FM radio, this device works well. I finally decided to try the radio outside of my house. I was able to get a few stations on both SW and AM. Not many, but some. Inside the house, nada.It takes a while to learn how to navigate around the radio as most everything on the radio is in Chinese. Not much instructions that came with it, but it is not difficult to find your way around on it. On/Off switch is on the top, along with a USB connection and the volume button. On the side of the radio is the LED flashlight, the headphone jack, the tuning knob and the charger connection. The bottom of the radio sits a slot for a TF card to be used for mp3s.I found the tuning knob to be very touchy and hard to use. The slightest turn and thing jumps stations. It is difficult to fine tune to a station. The volume knob works as normal and actually can get fairly loud for such a small radio. There are a bunch of buttons on the front, but most of them are made for mp3 playing. I have not used the mp3 option on this device. The flashlight button is on the front and also the toggle button that switches the device between FM/AM/SW. There is also an "M" button which according to the few directions that came with the radio is just for decoration. The bottom line, if you need a basic, rechargeable FM radio that has mp3 functions, this may not be a bad option. If you are looking for discovery of world wide SW stations, I would recommend looking elsewhere. AM not much better.I received this radio at a discount in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
