Race Tech 200-2938085 Fork Spring 0.85Kg

Just what the doctor ordered.
When one becomes an "enthusiast" ... or maybe it's just "old" ... motorcyclists often start considering and buying bikes they bypassed for more power earlier on. A main disadvantage of buying a smaller bike for fun or commuting is that most were designed for anorexic Japanese teenagers, and are thus sprung accordingly.Buying the correct spring rate for your fat American butt, and for the intended riding style (I wasn't taking the bike racing, nor do I have curvy roads around here to push it on, so I went for the lower spring rate when the Race Tech spring calculator put me in the middle of two spring weights - .85 and .90 kg - at .872). Thus far I am completely satisfied. As stated elsewhere, Race Tech springs come with enough Race Tech stickers to outfit six bikes if that's what you're into. The box also came with about six or eight washers, where my application only needed two.I guess the prevailing theory is that if you're going for heavier springs, you should go for heavier fork oil, too, if you don't change the valving, so don't forget to buy appropriate fork oil.The areas that were improved by having the right springs just keep impressing themselves on me. Sure I didn't want to bottom out on speed-bumps or when turning in an intersection with a grade change anymore, but even for little things like the effects of the rolling-on of the throttle while in top gear for highway use were improved.Unless they fail, or unless I were to take them to a certified lab to actually test the spring rate and found it erroneous, I'm not sure I can give any more of a critical review... so instead I'll just leave this as a reminder that too many - even new - bikes aren't sprung correctly for their riders, and that until dealerships and manufacturers start offering spring rate choices before delivery of a new bike (that would set the bar IMHO), new springs are an option worth considering.
