The book is a collection of some of the more famous and amusing statements made by Churchill during his long and varied career. The author starts off with an introduction to the man and his life, followed by a timeline of significant events. The real heart of the book - 'the wit' - then follows, divided into several sections, such as politics, use of language, animals, speeches, friends, himself, nations of the world, women and the family, drink, epigrams and miscellania.Clearly a work where one dives in for a specific quote or a short section to lighten the mood (rather than of the cover to cover variety) the organization works rather well, as the appropriate quotes are reasonably easy to find.The only potential weakness is that the quotes do not contain the place or time in most instances, so if you were hoping for a reference allowing more precise quotation you will need to look elsewhere.Overall a great place for the razor sharp wit and the occassional dose of inspiration or a smile.

This is not a life changing book by any measure but if you have some free time and fancy picking up a thing or two then this is for you. I had always read Churchill was a smart man and a good speaker but reading his quips made me laugh aloud several times.

My dad loves Churchill and this is like nothing he’s seen before, so it’s great.

A great reminder of what a brilliantly clever and witty man Churchill was. His put down lines are a joy.

Well written book addressing more UK natives since many stories are related to internal UK political events. Also the language used is very English and very Winston Churchill.

The great man was a magician with words and much of what he said, on a variety of subjects, is presented in this book. However the narrative style becomes rather boring. Therefore I suggest reading in small doses as a way of gaining most pleasure.

For any Winston Churchill admirers this is a great little book. I bought it for my partner and he really enjoyed it, some of the stories and quotes will be familiar, but there is enough content that even it your knowledgeable on the man you'll still find something new. Great as a birthday or Christmas gift
