Third Position Study Book for the Violin, Book One

I am a self learner and people like us need a little more instructions to get started.

I found Cassia Harvey's books and have become hooked-- as a violinist and teacher, I appreciate how her books are sequential and include music that is fun to play and listen to.This book is a great addition to my teaching tools for helping students who are starting in third position. The first two measures of each page help shift into position on the "main string" of the exercise (checking with an open string-- awesome ear training for beginners). Then, the rest of the song stays in third position to reinforce the correlation between notes. The second song on the page is often a folk song.If you're deciding between this one and her regular "Third Position For The Violin," here's the difference: this one stays in third position after the initial shift, while the other practices going between first and third.I would recommend this one (Study Book) first and the other one next. I bought both and definitely don't regret it.This was a fun play-through for myself and enjoyable for my students!

I have a couple of books now from this author and they are great. I'm an adult learner and felt like I'd never get better at learning new positions, but these books have really helped.
