If an Irish person said to you, “Gimmie that yoke,” would you think they were talking about an egg? If so, 99% of the time, you’d be wrong. How about banjaxed, bockety or craic? Any idea what they mean? The Little Book of Irishisms is for anyone who wants to understand the Irish, not just how we speak English, but how we are as people, relaxed about some things, picky about others. It’s also for those who'd like to sound Irish, even just for St. Patrick’s Day. An ambitious goal. But why not “give it a lash for the craic?” In this little book, you’ll learn handy tricks to Irishify your sentences – and how to avoid those clangers that people think we say but never actually do, like the classic, “Top of the morning to you.” You’ll even achieve the impossible and discover how to pronounce Irish names – like Clodagh, Tadhgh or Caoilfhinn. Call it a public service. If you’re coming to Ireland and want to fit right in, this book’s for you. If you can’t make it to our little nation, here’s a way of visiting in spirit. “Go on, go on, go on. You will, you will, you will,” to quote the infamous Irish comedy, Father Ted . Maybe the best thing about The Little Book of Irishisms - and we've only learned this by reading the reviews - is that it reminds us of the Irish people we love but can't be with. The Little Book of Irishisms is the perfect gift for anyone who enjoys being part of the Irish community. Review: Blarney to Blessings - Such fun. Great value for the price. Highly recommend. A great read. A guide to uniquely Irish greetings, sayings, blessings and blarney. Review: I now know what to say in pubs!!!! - I couldnt stop laughing! Delightful! I reread i 5 tymes and watched the suggested tv series, Father Ted!!!!! Great craic!

A fierce craic, altogether. Truly a grand and enjoyable read. More! I want so much more! Time to find more from this author.

Very entertaining and informative!
A fun book filled with all one needs to know to get along in the old country. What I found most interesting is how many of the sayings that I heard from out of the mouths of my relatives over the years came from Ireland! Is's a great find. Although the book is small and can be carried around very easily, I did find that having a bit larger print would have been helpful

Handy, Helpful and Lots of Fun!
How I wish I’d had this clever little book 25 years ago when I was working with a team of Irish craftsmen when I was building my house. They tried to teach me a few handy phrases but it would have been so much fun to watch their expressions when I came back with a few of my own. I’m looking forward to a post-pandemic time when I can gather with my friends of Irish heritage and share my new-found linguistic skills. And you can be sure this book will be tucked in my carry-on for that top-of-bucket-list trip to Ireland when its safe to travel again.

Fun and Entertianing
This book is the perfect bite sized read, and it's exactly what it says it is: a fun exploration of Irish turns of phrase and what they mean. The book includes explanations of Irish idioms, names for things that are called different (or don't exist) elsewhere, and sectioned areas of Irish cultural interest. This is a great book, and will absolutely save me some confusion when I get around to visiting. I'll probably be giving these out as stocking-stuffers this Christmas.

Smaller than expected!
The book itself is only 10x15cm and about 1cm thick, so it's a pocket guide! Lots of words and phrases with plenty of humor in the mix, plus a section on Irish names and how to pronounce them.

Very Funny!
This book is hilarious and typically Irish. It has unique Irish words like ‘banjaxed’ as in “Well, you’ve just gone and banjaxed that now.” It has tricks to make your sentences more Irish, like adding “at all, at all” to the end of a negative sentence e.g. “I’m not venturing out in that rain at all, at all.” There is information on Irish obsessions like the weather, tea, and the immersion. There are lists of Irish names, their meanings and how to pronounce them. There’s even a section on how to impress someone with some Irish words. It’s truly a wonderful book and had me laughing out loud.
