Good quality "granny" charger.
Only just taken delivery of the Masterplug Chargepoint Home EV charger. First impression are good. The cable from the charger out to the EV plus is solid and the plug is very good quality. The inline charger is made out of a high density plastic but as it doesn't have any rubber bumpers etc it's going to get scuffed up in use. The mains cord to the three pin mains socket is good enough and the moulded plug is good enough with a proper fuse. This has definitely been designed to meet UK electrical standards.I have noticed that some reviewers are complaining about slow charge times. This charger will deliver around 2.1kWh to an EV/PHEV. If you spend around £1k you can by yourself a 7kWh charger (inc installation) that is going to charge an average PHEV in around 2 hours. If you are happy to charge overnight then this charger will charge your PHEV from 10% to full in around 6 hours. If I was an owner of a full EV then I would opt for the 7kWh charger as this makes more sense. On the odd occasion that I need to charge my PHEV faster I pop it down to the local supermarket that has four 7kWh chargers that cost 44p/kWh. The supermarket is a relatively short walk from home plus I get a bit of exercise. To sum up this charger is great if you want to fully charge a PHEV with a 14kWh battery (or thereabouts) overnight from around 10% charge. It will charge a full EV but it will take a long time (get a 7kWh charger installed instead). The 10m version that I bought is pretty bulky but mine will mostly stay with the charge controller safely under cover in my garage with the charger cable running up my drive to the car's charger socket. I will measure plug temperatures to ensure that it is not overheating and I have ordered a BS 1363-2 EV mains socket to be installed that is specifically designed to be used with this type of charger.UPDATE: all installed in a fixed position and have added a Kasa smart plug that has power monitoring so I can keep an eye on how much charge is being used by the car plus I can switch the charger on and off without opening the garage door. Overall I’m very happy with the charger. There have been no problems with overheating and as it is connected to 13amp fused spur I’m confident it is 100% safe.

Well made and does the job
I use this to slow charge the EV whilst at home. It does the job and would take c. 22 hours to charge from empty to full. I have no issues at all with the product, well made and solid and has been soaked by rain a few times since I bought it.

Very bad and slow charge
My experience with the Masterplug EV Charging Cable has been a source of constant frustration. While it boasts about being "SAFE AND INTELLIGENT," the reality is far from it. The LED charging status indicator is a mere decorative piece, providing inaccurate information and leaving me clueless about the actual charging status. The promised "FAST AND INTELLIGENT CHARGING" turns out to be painfully slow, with an average of 8 miles range per charging hour, making it more of a hindrance than a convenience.Despite the claim of being "IP54 WATER AND DUST PROOF," the cable's durability is questionable. It barely survived a light drizzle, let alone harsh weather conditions. The supposed guarantee from Luceco PLC adds insult to injury, as their definition of "total peace of mind" seems to differ vastly from mine. A regrettable purchase that falls short of its promises

Works great
Works great with our Renault Zoe, and long enough to reach down the drive to a socket inside our house. It does take a while to charge, but this is down to the limits of house sockets, not this particular product.

Saved the day!
My EV didn't come with a granny charger and wanted one to leave in the car for emergencies! I wanted a known brand for that piece of mind so went for the Masterplug, I got it when on offer so it was a comparable price to the cheaper unknown brands, it has a nice digital display which shows you the rate of charge and the temperature. It also has a light system which indicates when it's charging or if there's a fault. It has a type 2 plug on one end and a 3 pin UK plug on the other which ISN'T interchangeable unlike some more expensive cables which allow you to change the small length of cable from the wall socket to the control box to enable different plugs to be used like EU 2 pins, UK 3 pins etc. It's sturdy and well built and has saved the day recently when my wall charger was playing me up (turned out to be a bug in the app) so with only 5% SOC left in the car I plugged this in to the car and over a period of 6 hours gave me 22% of charge so ended up with 27% in total in a 62kwh battery.

Great EV charger
Great charging Cable, does the job, however could have done with15 meters instead of 10.It can still make it to the car without Daisy-chaining it to an extension cable, although it’s a bit tight, that’s my problem no fault of the cable. As mentioned in another review, a tad more expensive than you can pick up from some other retailers, however you can spread the cost over several months, Saves shelling out for it in one hit.

Robust and high quality cable
I pretty much exclusively charge at home with this cable - it's of a really high quality and I've had no problems with it in the few months I've been using it. The block with the LCD screen and LEDs is as informative as it needs to be without being complicated, and at a glance I can see whether it's actively charging the car or not.The Type 2 plug itself is sturdy and snug - absolutely no issues whatsoever. For reference, I'm plugging in a VW ID.4 Pure and use Octopus' off-peak tariff. Generally I'll get +40% (70-80 miles) overnight, which costs under £2.
