Full of sereotypes and lacks a coherent plot
The only reason I finished this book was because I was stuck on a flight with nothing else to read - In an ideal world I would have returned it for a refund at the moment I realised the main character was a revolting bully – really after that I didn’t care if she starved herself to death or not. The ED elements don’t feel authentic and the working class characters are terrible stereotypes seemingly drawn from watching soaps – especially the grandparents – Grandma sending her life eating biscuits while watching UK Gold type programmes while Grandad is down the pub. Also I was kind of confused as to when it was set – feels more like the early 80s than the late 90s/early 00s – would a teenager in the later period really be listening to the Buzzcocks? I agree with the reviewer who said it has no real plot – it just meanders on and then ends abruptly. Overall I was left feeling - is that it>

Couldn't put down. A sad thought provoking novel that's easy to read. Would recommend to anybody and will definitely read again.

Excellent. Yet very disturbing. I need s proper ending and a closure though!
Why no closure there in the plot. Don’t do that to people with an ocd tendencies and ocd. Read it all in one night.

wasn't what i expected
it is in fact a novel about a young girl who's mother is battling with anorexia, the young girl goes through a brief stage of restricting but it's not as big a part of the book as i thought it would be. i was kind of disappointed but it's still an interesting book

An interesting look at serious issues
This is a young adult book which deals with body image and eating disorders. It is easy to put yourself in the narrators shoes and she is generally sympathetic. However, at times it felt like the issues were more important than character development and plot.

Disturbing
Narrated by a teenage girl with an eating disorder this is an immensely moving story. It's all the more tragic because her body issues are strongly influenced by her mother, who herself is obsessed with her weight, She causes her daughter to become extremely lacking in confidence and believing that the only way to be accepted and loved is to be stick thin. Anorexia and bulimia become part of this family's every day life, despite other relations trying to help the daughter break out of this unhealthy cycle. A brilliantly written tale of food obsession, but one that I suggest only older teenagers read as it is very disturbing at times.

definitly worth reading
After years of watching her Mum struggle with eating disorders, it seems only natural that Carmen should follow. Although she doesn't understand what is happening to her or her Mum, this book shows how serious eating problems can exist without people realising. More for the interaction between characters than the eating issues, this book is definitly worth reading.
