The Story Orchestra: I Can Play: Learn 8 easy pieces of classical music! (Volume 7) (The Story Orchestra, 7)

Great introduction to playing music!
This book takes songs that the child would have heard from the other Story Orchestra books. Unless you are familiar with the tune of the songs, it is difficult to play with just the colored notes. My toddler really enjoys this! After 2-3 times playing with the book, he has started trying to play the notes in the pattern shown. I love this entire series! The sound quality is excellent.

So fun
I bought this as a gift for my five year old and I wasn't sure if she would like it. Her and I did it together a few times and now she does it by herself. I even like to play with it! It's very fun and easy to follow. The song choices are good. I wish there were more recognizable songs on there, the dance of the sugar plum fairies is the one she chooses to do the most, but I like the quality of the book and the art is beautiful. If they publish another book like this with different songs I would buy that one too.

So FUN!
I purchased this book for my elementary (Pre-K-5) music classroom library. I love how the sound can be toggled on and off with the switch on the back, and that the musical excerpts match music found in my curriculum that students are already familiar with. I also like how attentive the author and publisher were with making sure the keys, colors, and sounds coordinate in a way that reinforces both tonality and melodic direction. I can't wait to see how my students react to this addition, but I am sure it will be even more popular than the other books I have from the Story Orchestra series.

3 keys play the same note
I bought this book in advance for a family member's 3rd birthday. At his party, we discovered three of the nine keys play the exact same note. So it's impossible to play a piece of music. Because it was past the window to return it to Amazon, I had to throw it away and count it as a financial loss. We have enjoyed some other Story Orchestra books, but were very disappointed in the extremely poor quality of this one. I won't buy any more.

cute gift, easy to follow and grandkids enjoying it.
Very easy to follow, play along with the story lines/songs or just play as a piano. Sound is good, lots of fun for toddlers!

Fun book to explore music
I have a 5-year-old who loves to sign, hum, and listen to music. We don’t own a piano, and I thought this would be a good introduction to playing music. Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saëns, and Vivaldi were chosen to represent animals expressing themselves though music, and this was a solid choice. This book has a good concept, headed down the right path but I would recommend a few tweaks. So first, the book contains a “piano” at the bottom which is always exposed with 13 realistic life-sized playing keys and 2 black keys which are not used. Each note has a corresponding color and shape. Some colors (red and orange) are re-used (circles and stars) which .. it’s an octave up but the littles won’t realize so I’d advise against to make it less confusing. At the top of the book, which flips open from above, is a hardbound cover and then 8 songs. Each song has an upper page with a piece of beautifully illustrated artwork and a text box explaining a bit about the song. The bottom page has 10-25 of the most famous notes of the song. The music is arranged in two rows but you’re not meant to pause between rows, so children will need to be told to read left to right and keep on going at the line break without any pause. Each row has at most 5 notes of variance, so the dots or starts ascend or descend within 5 spaces on that row to get a sense of the note changing without actually showing the actual staff. The bottom row may be arranged with the same note in a different spot though if that part of the song dips up or down from the row above. I think it would be good to print the letter of the music note (e.g. c, d, e) on the instructions and on the keys below so your child gets a sense that it is the same note and that note actually has a name. The other thing that I would suggest tweaking is to either include a QR code, a website or even have a little button on each page so that the child knows what the music is supposed to sound like. The reason I suggest this is that the instructions at the top suggest things like fast and majestic, slow and graceful, lively and grand, etc. No young child is going to know what that means or how to do it. Nor is there any sort of indication of how long to play each note for. My son does know some of the songs already, so phrasing on those songs wasn’t an issue but for the ones he didn’t, we had to go out and find the song for him online and jump to the right spot of the song so he’d know what it was supposed to sound like.I do like that there is a power off button on this so the batteries don’t get worn down. The noise level is just right - not too loud and annoying like some of these products can be.This book is appealing with the theme being animals. You can really use your imagination with your loved ones to set the tone before playing. I love what this book is trying to do, but a few tweaks would make this a good book to an amazing book.

Sound is good
We bought this to try on piano interest with our 3yo before commit for something more expensiveHe already knew the musics used in this book from other sound books ( swan lake, nutcracker, animals carnaval and Vivaldi 4 seasons). The sound of this book is good it sound like a key board. The piece chosen are very recognizable so I should be easy to get to play them properly after a while of practicing.I recommend that book totally for kid 3 and above that like their classical and would like to try to play then

Una maravilla
Esta serie de libros es muy instructiva y entretenida para los menores. Desde los dos años los van a disfrutar y además aprenderán a apreciar las grandes obras de la música clásica. Muy pero muy recomendables.

Liebe voll gestaltetes Musikspielzeug

Great book
This book is both fun and educational. Love the concept! I have bought it for my one year old and although she’s still very young for this type of book she still interacts with it well. It will be a great book to grow with her.

My special needs son loves it!
The colour coded notes are so easy to follow and it helps with matching skills too. Familiar tunes which he loved. His face literally lights up each time he manages to follow the notes and completes the short melody. Wish the publisher has more of such books in the series. Great find!
