Super easy To use great Tester!!!
This paint thickness tester It's got to be one of the easiest things I've ever had to use And it works so good I want to go take a look at a Used vehicle that I was thinking about purchasing They had told me that I'd had never been in an accident and never been repainted But once I tested it I knew that it had I'm really happy with this purchase Save me money And aggravation Highly recommend this !

Works as it should. Great cheap, small and handy, and works great.
I used to just use a magnet with a paper towel to tell how thick the paint and bondo was until i saw this. The magnet I would use was light enough that if there was any trace of bondo of too much paint it would fall off. This is basically the same thing as far as accuracy. This tells you how thick it is too by how much tension it takes to pull the light spring inside attached to the magnet. Works great! Cheap, and handy.

Great to have when shopping for used car
This appears to work. I tried it on my vehicles which have no known damage and that is what it showed. Lower door panels have a plastic stick-on protection and it showed them as having damage (I expected that as the thickness of the plastic decreases the magnetic attraction). It is a good, inexpensive device to have on hand when shopping for a used car. Should be easy to identify body work that might not be visually obvious. It would be better if the device remained in the position where the magnetic tip came off the vehicle, and you pushed it back in to do another reading. Because it snaps back in when it comes off the car surface, you have to pay close attention to where it was at the moment of release. I saw a youtube video for a different product that remained out. It was more expensive and not currently in stock so I thought I would try this one. It will get the job done.

Great little device, does the job on metal surfaces for a fraction of the cost of the electronic ones
I really like the simplicity and accuracy of this device. I first tried in on the hood of my car and couldn't get any reading at all. Then I found out that the hood is fiberglass or carbon fiber which is lighter and doesn't rust and that also explained why the chips on the front never rusted. It only works on metal surfaces and for the price it's well worth it.

Not accurate definitely.
Not accurate definitely. But I guess it can help a bit to understand thickness of a car's paint/material. Not for professional use.

Inexpensive, simple and effective tool
Inexpensive, simple and effective tool to measure paint thickness on metal surfaces. Great for the occassional used and classic car buyer. Not as precise as a digital paint meter, but good enough to detect bondo, etc. And never runs out of battery since it is a simple spring and magnet design.

Worked well for me.
Worked great. I was surprised to find on my 2002 Lesabre, which had not been repainted, that the paint on the hood was thinner than on the side panels. Was this because of more sunlight and oxidation of the paint on the more exposed hood over 18 years time? My Lexus SUV had had body work done on it, and the device corresponded well in showing where this was done.

Great Value for a Simple to Use Product
This is a cool little tester. Attach the magnetic tip to the car and slowly pull away. Watch the color code on the stick and it will tell you if you are looking at a repainted area. First find an un-repainted area which will hold the magnet solid for a bit and that sets your baseline. It should be green or so. Then move around the car retesting. It will surely find repainted areas like it did on my car. One I did not know about!

I work in the auto detailing/wrapping industry. I use this tool to identify if panels have been repainted, because when vinyl wrapping a vehicle, a repainted car has a higher chance of paint peeling off when removing vinyl. The tester works great, and can identify the thickness of the paint, regardless of the condition of the paint. Just a little disclaimer, some cars are made of aluminum, fiberglass, carbon fiber, plastic - where this tester won't work. Not the testers fault, but just something to consider.
