Chair Caning Kit

It only comes with 4 pegs but I didn’t need any more than the 4. Kit was great!

I re-caned five chairs 30 years ago. This one didn't need caning at the time. Now it did. I ordered this, and it was perfect. Everything I needed was included for the one chair (with a little left over). The instructions were easy for me, but that could be because I have done this before.

This was a great, inexpensive project for me. My parents had an old chair where the seat of it had been busted through and I thought, “why not learn to cane a chair?“ The kit was very straightforward and gave me everything I needed. It took a lot more time than I expected, but isn’t that always the case?

There were a couple strands that had weak spots and broke easy. That resulted in more loose ends and therefore running out of caning before I finished. That also resulted in not having enough pegs but luckily I had already bought more before starting. So I am off to buy more caning.....

First, when I tried to remove a strand of cane from the bundle I ended up with a big mess. My cat loved it, but me - not so much. Second, you need to soak it much longer than the 10-15 min recommended. I only did one strand at a time as you're not supposed to soak overlong and the piece I was working with would dry out quickly and twist and/or break. By the time I got to the second diagonal I soaked each strand for 30 min. That worked much better. Third, find a good tutorial online and watch it in its entirety before you attempt this. It is a very time-consuming project and not comfortable either. Fourth, buy golf tees or additional pegs as only four come with the packet. Happy caning!

This kit had some pega and the weaving material as described. There were not enough pegs, so I had to purchase another pack seperately.

Instructions aren’t terrible but not sure of the later steps described because I could not get past step 1. The cane seems narrow, kinks easy and snapped off. I kept trying for a good period of time but then just gave up as it was frustrating. This is my first attempt at caning a chair. I compared what I got to the old cane removed from the chair and old stuff was wider and seemed better quality.

Kit parfait. La vidéo sur Youtube permet de faire un cannage à l'aide de ces outils.

I liked everything about this product. The only thing I would include in the description of it , is that the product is not one width. I happened to need the widest came and I need more than was included. The rest isn’t used for the application I purchased it for. Although I need more product I am still very happy with the way it turned out so far.
