The cutest little bee story
This book is a favourite for our 2 year old who’s learned every word of this cute little rhyming story about a little girl and a bee she finds.

Sweet little tale but not 100% accurate
This is a great little book to help kids learn about the importance of bees and why there's no need for us to be fearful of them. The illustrations are lovely and put me in mind of animation from the 1960s, whilst the story has a sweetness about it that still manages to deliver the message of why bees are a vital part of the planet's ecological system. However, as someone else has already said here, calling the bee Bernard is wholly inaccurate and the soul reason for my 4/5 rating. All worker bumblebees are female, as too are honey bees. The small number of male bees - known as drones - hatch later in the season, leaving the nest or hive in order to find a queen to mate with. And once that's done, they die. Changing Bernard's name to Bernadette, Beatrice or Belinda would have been a much better and accurate choice.Whilst some may say the name doesn't matter as long as the message gets across, I would argue that getting these small facts right at as early an age as possible is vital in making sure future generations understand the natural world around them, the part it plays in their everyday lives and what they can do to help protect it.If there's a revised edition of this book, I would ask the publishers to make this small change which will help to make a BIG difference in terms of the accuracy of the overall story and children's understanding of it.

Don't buy if you are looking for facts about bee's
Various innacurate facts about bee's within this story. A nice story to help our son feel more relaxed around bee's when outside.

Even books for small kids should be factually correct
It's great that there are books to help kids learn about nature and not to be fearful, and the illustrations are cute. But, why not do some basic research first? BERNARD, really? In a nest of 300-400 bumblebees the vast majority are worker bees, ALL of which are FEMALE. A small number of males hatch later in the season, but they don't and can't gather pollen. Their only function is to find queen bees to mate with. Once they've mated they die. That's their lifecycle. So Bernard's real life is probably a bit inappropriate for a picture book for small kids. Please make some revisions for the next edition and change him to Bernadette. Even toddlers deserve accuracy.
