The 50s: The Story of a Decade Paperback

I have really been enjoying this anthology of choice and important articles from The New Yorker of the 1950s., the decade before I was born. I am reading it on my Kindle. Many of the articles are so excellent that they are worth reading and re-reading just for pleasure. Well worth the purchase price. What a vivid experience to read such outstanding writing about those times from within those times, from those whose experience of the 1950s was their "lived experience," as the contemporary phrase has it, rather than some pompous post facto assessment by someone who never lived it.

Sim, o livro faz um magnifico panorama dos anos 50 e foi muito apreciado, não só pela variedade de assuntos, como pela pluralidade de abordagens..

Bought this for my Dad for Christmas and he is absolutely delighted with it. It is about the lifestyles of the great and the good in 1950's New York. I imagine you could skip the odd chapter if you wished. Love the cover (would look good on my coffee table in my 1940's house.

Fascinating not only to get a glimpse of thr 50s that I remember only as a small child but also to see the root of many of today's issues. The articles are varied and wide-ranging in subject mtter. Some appealed to me more than others but overall a worthwhile reading experience.
