The Complete Pompeii (The Complete Series)

I purchased this book for a class. It is a beautiful hardcover that would also make a good coffee table book. It is full-color with decent sized pictures of the art and architecture throughout this ancient city.

Bought this as a gift and WOW, it was very well received. They are over halfway through reading and really enjoying it. They recently toured Pompeii and wanted to get more information about it.

This book is a wonderful read, and exceptional resource for any history enthusiast! Completely delighted with my purchase!

Just got back from a great tour of Pompeii. I swore that when I got home I would order a comprehensive book to further enhance what I learned on-site. This book is everything I hoped for!

Wanted more information after a trip to Pompeii. This book is beautifully made and extremely informative. Would buy it again, if needed.

After seeing the Pompeii exhibit in Richmond, VA, I wanted more information on this beautiful, but tragic civilization. The book fills in all gaps of information I had on many topics. It is beautifully illustrated with photos which capture the spirit of people in that time of history. It has been amazing to see so many similarities between a first century civilization and ours today. They enjoyed beautiful things for their homes, and decorated them lavishly, sometimes with a great sense of humor. They had indoor plumbing and heating systems, and lives of comfort were available for the wealthy. In addition, just like today, there were graphic paintings, and graffiti on walls of the town. In spite of the wonderful lives they were able to live, it was all taken away in the space of nine hours....just as it could be today in even less time. The book is very thought-provoking about life itself, well-written, comprehensive, and beautifully illustrated!

My own visit to Pompei was a mere 2 hour stop in a guided tour from Sorrento, stepping into a site crowded with tourists on a hot and humid mid-September day. But this book helps elucidate what I saw in that short stop. Would I have liked to have spent more time exploring Pompei? Yes, but without the crowds. This book helped me accomplish that vicariously.

Really interesting and good overview read it before visiting Pompeii and was very useful , also nice pictures.

I recently came back from a Italy. I wanted more information on Pompeii. We went to Pompeii and we just couldn’t see it all. This book is a great read.
