Partners of the Heart: Vivien Thomas and His Work with Alfred Blalock

Very interesting story and detailed so well you think you are a fly on the wall!

A rather sad but uplifting story of probably the greatest heart surgeon and instructor in the world but who was unqualified as a doctor. Not the best quality paper and rather poor photographs but I rated it very high.

This book and a movie was made years after my brother died so they wouldn't have to pay any money to my parents for the story and some things were changed. They said it was a little girl but it wasn't. It was my brother because my parents were told before the surgery that it had never been done before and he would be a first. I grew up hearing the story over and over so I really liked reading the book to learn everything about my brothers surgery.

Every African American person should read Vivien Thomas’ story. It does read a little technical in many places- lots medical procedure explanations. The story is interesting though.If u like learning about history then you will enjoy it.
