Wonderful, wonderful book
One of the best books I have read by a photographer or about photography... Ralph Gibson is clearly a lovely bloke and I love the way he has learned lessons down the ages.

Most overrated photographer ever
I like some of his photographs, but it is not a book I wanted to keep and getting dust. Overall I was not happy and sent it back 5 minutes after it arrived. There is a better way to spend money - buying some film would first come up to my mind.

A Book That Defines The Photographs and The Photographer.
There are very few really great fine art photographers left, most passed years ago. Ralph Gibson is one of those who is true to his craft and continues to produce exceptional work. It took a lot of courage for him to write about his childhood, relationship with his parents, and the challenges he's faced. I'm glad he did, it helps to understand the man behind the photographs. A dedication to Leica, a dedication to black and white, and a dedication to the image - not some currently popular software package, it all shows here.

Excellent book for photographers
I have been following Ralph Gibson for years, and love his work. His autobiographical book, Self-Exposure, has informative essays into his life and more importantly, his approach and philosophy to photography. Well done!
